Show MRS. PEETE IS FOUND GUILTY Life Imprisonment Is Penalty Fixed for Slayer of Denton. Los Angeles. Mrs. Louise L. Feete was found guilty by a jury, on February Feb-ruary 5, of murder in the first degree for the slaying of Jacob Charles Denton. Den-ton. The jury fixed the penalty at life imprisonment. In the trial of Mrs. I'eete for the alleged murder of Denton, which was begun here January 19, the prosecution sought to establish that Denton was last seen alive June 2 last, and announced an-nounced the theory that he was killed by Mrs. Peete on that date. A body found September 23 in the basement of the Denton residence was declared to .have been that of the missing man. It was shown that Mrs. I'eete was renting the house at that time, Denton Den-ton retaining an apartment there. Other testimony was that after June 2 Mrs. Peete pawned a diamond ring which belonged to Denton and disposed of wearing apparel and other of his possessions, while several witnesses asserted she had made contradictory statements about his disappearance. Mrs. Peete declared Denton was alive after June 2, but she did not know w-here lie had gone. She as-; serted she had his permission to dispose dis-pose of the articles named. Her counsel coun-sel maintained that none of the prosecution's prose-cution's assertions in connection with the case had been established beyond a reasonable doubt. Mrs. Peete came to Los Angeles from Denver a month after the finding of the body, announcing she would assist the police in investigating the case. Her indictment and arrest followed. i |
