Show Sanpete Farmers. Take Strong Hold ! There is no county in the state i that i3 more dependent on the farms : and what they produce, than is San-! San-! pete county. There are 1,813 farms 1 in the county with a .total acreage i of 291,007, affording to the 1920 j census. This is a tremendous task jto'properly handle such a vast acre-i acre-i age. Is it not logical, proper and i wise -that those who are engaged in jtliis big business should band themselves them-selves together to protect their own interests? It is a lamentable fact that this step has not been taken long before. It is not the intent of the Farm Bureau movement to .take undue avantage of other industries and other business and business men, but rather to co-operate more closely close-ly with them .for the good of the whole. The farmers feel that they have not received a square deal in the past. They do not blame anyone but themselves. And now, all that they ask is that they' receive a reasonable rea-sonable day's wages, the same as any other laboring man, plus interest inter-est on their investment. Can anything any-thing more sane and more reasonable be asked for .them than this? Can any other business expect the farmers farm-ers to continue to feed the world for less than this? In the name of fairness, no. It is one purpose of the Farm Bureau to try and bring about this condition. In order that any institution or organization may do business effectively, effec-tively, It must have strength. To this end there has been a Farm Bureau Bu-reau membership campaign on in Sanpete county .for the past two weeks. In connection with this campaign cam-paign there has been meetings held. Two Farm Bureau men . from the outside, R. W. Creer of Utah county and Ephraim. Bergesen of Cache county, and two local men, J. S. Bastian of Gunnison and D. N. Beal of Ephraim, and the count$ agent have been in attendance at these meetings, throughout the county. Meetings held and attendance at same are as follows: Centerfield. 53; Gunnison, 119; Clarion, 17; Mayfield,, 18; Fairview, 62; Axtell, 31; Ephraim, 12C; Manti, 123; Spring City, '3$; Moroni, 44; Ft. Green, 58; Chester, 32; Mt. Pleasant, 128. Meetings are planned for Sterling Ster-ling and. Wales in the near fu.Uire. It is expected that .Sanpete get 1,074 members in the Farm Bureau this year. It looks as though we will go over the top. Membership soliciting committeemen committee-men are busy now in every town and every farmer in the county will have had a visit by these men and an opportunity op-portunity to join the bureau before the campaign closes. Farmers, this is your opportunity to improve your own conditions and to help out other business in Sanpete county. |
