Show Gunnison Valley-Best Valley-Best In West "Gunnison valley has a better outlook out-look and a brighter future than- any section in the entire state of Utah, and this is not said with any boast but purely on the merits which you fortunate- people have here. I doubt if any section in the entire west will compare with the future of the great Gunnison valley, and I am frank to admit that I envy the property owner own-er in this section." Thus spoke J. W. Paxman to a News representative the first of the week. Mr. Paxman, federal land appraiser, was here in conference with E. H. Bardsley relative rela-tive to the federal farm loans that are being made throughout the valley. val-ley. Mr. Paxman is one of the largest larg-est dry-farmers in the state, and his immense wheat fields along the La-van La-van ridge has gained for him a reputation repu-tation as one of the largest and most successful agriculturists in the western west-ern country. "In my capacity as federal land appraiser I have occasion to visit practically every farming community in the state of Utah," continued Mr. Paxman, "and I want to tell you that this valley here is one of the very best in the state. With the drainage system just installed and with the unlimited supply of water, the favorable favor-able condition of the soil, together with the ideal climatic conditions, your valley gives great promise. All that is now needed is to colonize a good class of thrifty farmers on the idle acres here and your future is assured." Mr. Paxman reports his wheat crop on the acres at Lavan ridge as excellent this year, the production averaging 50 bushels to the acre. His grade is the Turkey Red, and it has been proven that this quality is one of the best for dry-farming lands. |
