Show Young Bandits Burglarize Store Monday morning shortly after daylight, "young" burglars broke into in-to W. H. Gribble's store and carried away about $5 in chewing gum and pocket knives. An early morning riser observed the two boys tinkering tinker-ing with the door and when the kids had broken the window and pilfered the place, a warning was given and the boys made a hasly retreat, scattering scat-tering gum along the route. An attempt at-tempt was made to "jimmy" the door and the thieves succeeded in removing remov-ing the iron bar used as a barricade. The door was locked, however, and failing in this a stone was used and the window broken. Suspicion was directed to two boys living on the west side, but a search of the premises prem-ises did not reward the officers. "Gunnison is harboring some mighty tough characters," said a j well known buisness man, "and it is j time some drastic action was being taken to put a stop to the thievery. During the past two weeks or more, no less han a dozen houses have been broken into and it is becoming a nuisance. While the loot obtained does not amount to a great deal, the very idea of allowing it to go on without prosecuting and encouraging crookedness is a bad example. In Carbon county the civic clubs, in order or-der to check the activities of the boys in stealing, are planning on enforcing en-forcing the laws to the- limit and when parents will allow the boys to go unheeded the parents will suffer suf-fer prosecution. If an example is made in Gunnison it will tend to help matters." The home of Charles Rasmussen was entered last Saturday afternoon during the absence of the family. The door had been left unlocked and a boy passing bills, finding the coast clear, entered the home and finding a savings bank, pried it open and extracted ex-tracted about $3 in money. Suspicion was directed to the McMillan lad who has been charged with a number of thefts ad when confronted he confessed con-fessed to the deed. Property owners own-ers are cautioned to keep their homes locked uring their absence. |
