Show AMERICANS CONSUME LESS MEAT IN 1922 Report on Per Capita Consumption Consump-tion Made Public by the Agricultural Ag-ricultural Department. The Individual American ate 25.4 pounds less meat in 1922 than he did In 1000. That Is the substance of a report on per capita meat consumption Just made public by the Department of Agriculture. This report has been received re-ceived with Intense Interest by live stock raisers, packers, retailers and others whose business It Is to supply meat. These Interests have recently perfected per-fected an organisation which will conduct con-duct a nation-wide educational and advertising ad-vertising campaign to Increase the consumption of meat. The live stock and meat board Is composed of 11 representatives rep-resentatives of producer organizations and six representatives from commission commis-sion firms, packers and retailers. The board has selected R. O. Pollock as managing director in active charge of the campaign work. The Department of Agriculture is actively backing the educational campaign cam-paign of the board. Live stock Interests In general feel that the bringing of meat consumption to normal would have a great Influence Influ-ence toward national prosperity. It is a common belief among live stock men that unscrupulous statements state-ments by various Interests have made a false Impression upon the minds of the general public as to the food value of meat and Its relation to health and vigor. With this In mind the educational educa-tional campaign which Is now under way la not to tell the general public to eat mora meat but to tell the truth about meat |
