Show CYCLONES TAKE OPENING GAME The Fairview baseball team wound themselves into a heap of trouble last Saturday. They were scheduled to play with Gunnison at the opening open-ing game on the local diamond at 4:30 last Sunday. The trouble of the visitors began enroute from their home town with punctures and balky automobiles and ended in the ninth inning in one of the best games seen C, here when the Cyclones, the best team in Sanpete county, walloped them to the tune of 8 to 2. There was never' a chance for the visitors and with Carl Hoff in the box for Gunnison, the visitors were baffled and could only make two connections connec-tions with the home plate. It was Hoff's game and with the able support sup-port of his team mates a splendid exhibition was given the big crowd of fans. Carl Hoff pitched league ball and when the finals had been counted 15 strikeouts were to his credit. He allowed al-lowed eight hits and he had a tally strapped to his belt. Notwithstanding Notwithstand-ing the fact that the Gunnison boys had been in little practice, they put up the usual game baseball through and through. The Fairview bunch had an advantage ad-vantage over the locals, in that they had been in several games this season. sea-son. ' But they failed to take advantage advan-tage of the situation. However, they played fast ball and only for the su-psriority su-psriority of the Gunnison team, the tale might have been different. On account of trouble with the cars the visitors were traveling in the game was some two hours late in starting. The big crowd of fans, however, were determined and stuck it out and were well paid for the trouble. The game throughout was clean and devoid of rowdyism. W. L. Humphreys, for bases, and J. Gundersdn, for batteries, manipulated manipu-lated the indicators and the decisions decis-ions of both were fair and impartial. Following is the score: Gunnison. Manager J. W. Jones for the Gunnison Gun-nison baseball team has arranged for two games, one for Saturday and one for Sunday afternoon. On Saturday Sat-urday the Levari team will be here and on Sunday the Richfield club will play the locals at the homo grounds. Manager Jones states that both games are scheduled to start at 5:30 p. m., and that there will be no waiting. |
