Show FORTY-FOUR HOUR WEEK GOAL Federation Pledged to Obtain Shorter Week for Workers. Atlantic City, N. J. The American Federation of Labor, at its closing session, ses-sion, on June 22, of its annual convention, con-vention, pledged itself to obtain a general gen-eral 44-hour week for workers in all crafts throughout tho United States and for employees in the government service. The demand was based on a determination to prevent unemployment, unemploy-ment, which, the delegates declared, is one of t lie two primary causes of industrial in-dustrial unrest. The other cause is the decreased purchasing power of the dollar. dol-lar. Manufacturers and employers were urged to "bridge the gap" and increase wages "without any controversy." |
