Show MORONI BOYS OUTCLASSED "Too much wrangling, poor playing play-ing on both sides and too much time consumed," is the criticism offered by a fan who witnessed the game between be-tween the Moroni and Gunnison teams on the local diamond last Sunday. Sun-day. Nearly 300 enthusiasts saw the Gunnison boys take the visitors in to the tune of 11 to 8. If it had not ' been for the careless playing, or maybe hard luck, that overtook the home team, the score would have been near a shut-out, but on account of errors, which came in bunches, the Moroni boys crowded eight of their men across the home plate. Considerable dissatisfaction was expressed by the onlookers at the delay occasioned over the decision made by the umpire in the eighth inning in-ning when the visitors scored three runs. The ball, after being hit, went close to third base and when three men had come in the homers claimed a foul. For twenty minutes or more the diamond swarmed with supporters support-ers of both sides and those who went to see baseball waited twenty minutes min-utes before the game was resumed When quiet had been restored, however, how-ever, the Cyclones put the finishing touches on by easily winning the game. A bunch of "rooters" from Moroni was present and "bawled loud and long" for their favorites, but it vain.. The game Sunday made two defeats de-feats for Moroni at the hands of the Gunnison team this season. Moroni is so firm in her belief that she can best Gunnison two out of three game8 that a purse of $500 has been posted for the contest. Arrangements have been made for the games and the first will be played at Moroni on July 25th. The second game will bo played at'Gunnison on the 27ih, and the third, if played, will be at Manti, the latter being selected as the neutral grounds. The game promises prom-ises to be the best of the season and preparations are being made by Doth contenders to carry off the purse. During the last week Gunnison lias recovered from Us "streaK" of hard luck and has been defeating opponents with ease. At Mt. Pleasant Pleas-ant on the 10th the Cyclones had a walk-away, winning with a score of 29 to 10. The following day they "mushed" the Moroni bunch with a score of. 23 to 10. The three games gave the locals a total of 63 runs as against 2 8 pounded out by the opposition. |
