Show CYCLONES TEAR INTO SALINANS Cyclones are always regarded much worse than Whirlwinds and the former can and has always outdone out-done the latter. The game of baseball base-ball between the Gunnison Cyclones and the Salina Whirlwinds last Sunday Sun-day proved no exception to the rule end when the clouds had Cleared away the official sec re stood 7 to 4 with the Whirlwinds in the minority. It was one of the best and most hotly contested games seen in either -Sanpete or Sevier counties this season sea-son and the big crowd of "rooters" from all the adjoining towns only tended to enliven the game. The Sa-lir.a Sa-lir.a boys put up a strong game and did their utmost to wrest the laurels from the visitors, but in .vain. The Gunnison lads, every member of the club, was in the game and won the plaudits at every point. R. Edwards, the trusty left fielder for the Gunnison boys, stepped in the "real league" class and crowned himself with glory and was tus main feature in defeating the Salina bunch. Of the eight long flies "soaked" to his pasture, Edwards took six. It matters not where they went, Edwards was there and on one occasion he sauntered 'nto the infield in-field and "grabbed" ore. Sorenson. at second plate, and Pace, pitching, pulled off "star" pl.-.ys and Sanders, playing short stop, put two hits in. the field that allowed him two hoa runs. Salina, through a couple of errors on the part of the Gunnison players, scored three runs in the third inning. in-ning. It was a signal, however, and. the Cyclones tightened up and the Sevier county lads were only able to connect once more with the home plate, the rua being made in their half of the eighth. Sunday's game was the third between be-tween the two clubs for this season and all have been won by the Cyclones. Cy-clones. The Whirlwinds, however, think they might sometime win one, and to this end Manager Jones for the Cyclones has arranged a game to be played oi. the GumJson diamond dia-mond Sunday, August 17. Manti Hero Sunday. The Manti Speedsters will be the guests of the Gunn'son Cyclones next Sunday afternoon, the game commencing com-mencing promptly at 5 o'clock. Manti Man-ti has a game with the Eureka players play-ers tomorrow and fcr the occasion has imported somj "crack" players. The 'crack" bunch will be here for Sunday's game and a good game may be expected. |
