Show WATER USERS ARE WARNED "Indications point to the lowest run-off of the Sevier river, for the 1919 irrigation season, since 1905. "Without rains over the drainage nrea the situation on the lower Sevier Se-vier river will beeome critical before July 15th, about the average date "when the usual summer rains commence." com-mence." Thus spoke Water Commissioner Com-missioner E. A. Porter to a News , man last Tuesday. Mr. Porter has v given the water situation a close study and his advice on co-operation 5s timely and should be heeded. Continuing Con-tinuing on the subject, Mr. Porter said: "The present action of the river 1s being more directly felt by the old canal companies, which have no interest in-terest in the stored water supply. Most of the companies owning stored water should go through the season in fair shape if their stored water ialances are used with care and an ample reserve is held back for use during the month of September. "Without such a reserve the season vill finish only with minimum results." re-sults." Commissioner Porter, for the lower low-er Sevier river, has just submitted reports to all canal companies along the river, in which a note of warning warn-ing is given. In these reports the recommendation is made that the present situation demands close cooperation co-operation and in the event that conditions con-ditions become worse, that the rotation rota-tion system be used among the old canals. Sucii a system will increase the efficiency of the present natural flow and doubtless cover the period cf stress, or until rains are had, which will naturally increase the supply. |
