Show Twenty-Fourth Celebration The celebration of Pioneer day in Gunnison was featured by a parade wholly from the Primary association. The little folks, garbed in pioneer dress and with covered coaster wagons, wag-ons, in parade made quite an attraction attrac-tion while their program carried out as they encamped at the school ground was realistic of the scenes that took place en route from Nauvoo by the Pioneers. The call of the Mormon battalion was acted out with marked ' nicety, the farewell ball also sharing favorable impression. The Primary association otlicers deserve utmost praise for their untiring efforts in training the children for the attractive attrac-tive demonstration which they gave in remembrance of the pioneers. Following this at the bowery the citizens met and enjoyed a rare program, pro-gram, numbers additional to the printed program being given. Miss Lois Myrup and Miss Ruth Perkins were graceful figures, representing respectively "Utah, 1847" and "Utah, 1916." Each one gave a speech suited suit-ed to the time Intended to portray. There were present on the stand those who had crossed the plains with handcart company, and but a few were present who took part in the first settling of Gunnison immediately immediate-ly below "Rocky point,-' on the bottom bot-tom land intervening the present site and the west part of Gunnison field. Joseph Christenson was master mas-ter of ceremony during the exercises. The children's dance in the afternoon after-noon was a success, but the rain that started in a little before three o'clock precluded outdoor sports which had been planned. |
