Show Scarlet Fever Spreading. All public gatherings are prohibited, prohibit-ed, both in Gunnison and Centerfield, owing to the prevalence of scarlet fever. The order coming from the boerd of health takes no public form but is conveyed only from one to another iu the community, in a "catch -as-catch can" way. Scarlet fever cases are increasing in number each day and at this writing there is no given warning except in the manner stated acd a plain yellow flag at the places quarantined. This is quite unusual, but evidently within the law, even if unwise. Just how the contagion started, remains re-mains a mystery . It was first dis covered among the school children, aud the particular room where it existed ex-isted was at onca closed and the known cases quarantined A week past, and others came down who were not pupils in this room. This led the quarantine physician to order those having in hand the directing of public pub-lic gatherings to Btop all meetings, and the schools were already at the last day for the season. One death from this disease has occurred and there is little hope for the recovery of another case. There is uo telling how wide-spread the ccutagiou will become, as quite a number have been exposed, Tho public cannot be too careful nbout mingling and Bhould use every precaution pre-caution to check the disease. Iu the meantime it would do no harm if a general cleaning up of premises were taken in band. The health board is undoubtedly desirous of bettering conditions, but Buch publicity as the situation demands is for so me reason not availed. |
