Show Base Ball All Gunnison and Fayette were out in holiday attire Friday afternoon last on the occasion of the ball game between be-tween the nines of thes two places. Ihe fair rooters of both towns helped their respective fanouts by tneir vociferous presence much more than did their male escorts, Boys, put on more steam. The battle was on at 5 :30. Fayette was first at the bat and went out in one, two, three order. Gunnison succeeded suc-ceeded in getting several tallies in their half of the first. In the second inning Fayette came back with a number num-ber of tallies. Gunnison then substi tuted Holmsted for Wade and had game as his name appeared oii the list as handed to the captain of the Fajetta team and he raised no objeotion. Lt us pass it up this time, get together aud make a good team that will hereafter here-after represent Gunnison. I V hile the boys have not put in much practise the past week, the girlp have been out nearly every evening. They are certainly getting good team work and are batting like league players. We are looking for a match game between the girls and the fat men of the town, but the latter seem a little slow in getting out for practice. On the sida, we would advise them to train up, for the girls will be no easy proposition. , tilings their own way until the finish. ' The substitution of this Lehi team man gave rise to no little disapproval, but the Fayette boys gracefully sub mitted as a practice opportunity. This incident has also caused a temporary disruption of tbe local club, the president positively refusing to stand by such glaring irregularity and has tendered his resignation. Cooper Umpire, Roush, The wide difference in the score did not dampen the ardor of tbe players play-ers or the spectators.. Many good plays were pulled off in spite of the unsatisfactory condition of the field. The players of both teams are to be commended for their pluck and regard re-gard for the game. It is hoped In the near future Gnnnison will respond to the invitation of the visiting team and play a return game. We were sorry to note the feeling that was aroused by Guunison playing play-ing Holmstsd. If Gunnison is going to have a representative ball team, let us have it composed ot Gunnison meD. While Holmsted played with Gunnison last season he is now with the Lebi team and consequently should not be counted here. We would have made a much cleaner and more interesting game if he had not been played. However, there is no real censure due to his playing in this |
