Show WANTS TO BE RELIEVED. Governor General Smith Tires of Life in the Philippines. Washington. Governor General Smith, it was stated here on Thursday, Thurs-day, has signified his desire to be relieved of duty in the Philippines. It was said, however, that nothing definite defi-nite has been done in the matter, and ,that no date has been set for his relief, re-lief, although it probably will be in about a month. Mr. Smith's desire to return to the United States is based on his wish to have his family in this country. He has been in the Philippines for eleven years, and it was said that his services ser-vices have been so excellent that his resignation will be accepted with regret. re-gret. A high official Thursday night paid that W. Cameron Forbes, vice-governor vice-governor of the Philippines, probably would succeed Governor Smith. |
