Show MORTGAGE CAUSES MURDER. Prominent Greek Resident of Ogden Shot Down by Fellow Countryman. Ogden, Utah. John Contos, one of the most prominent Greek residents of the city and proprietor of an ice cream and confectionery store, was shot and almost instantly killed' at his place of business shortly before midnight Saturday by Nick Vegas, a fellow countryman. Vegas is the proprietor of a fruit stand. Another Greek, who works for Contos, says that Vegas walked into the store and, without a word, stepped up to the confectionery counter as if to make a purchase, suddenly drew a large sized revolver, and fired. He then turned and ran down the street. Trouble is said to have originated over some business differences. Contos, it is said, held a mortgage upon the fruit stand of Vegas and had taken steps to close Vegas up. |
