Show American gong Writers. The most successful of nil living popular popu-lar song writers that is, those who have made the greatest number of pronounced hits are unquestionably Will S. Hays and Dave Braliam. Tho former is a journalist, having been the river editor of The Louisville Courier-Journal for several years past. He has probably written a greater number of songs winch have become universally popular than any other composer, except Stephen C. Foster. He first became generally known through liis "Write Me a Letter From Home," which was sung from one end of the United States to the ot her. Thie lie followed up lu rapid succession with "Wo Parted by the River Side," "Beautiful Dreamer," "Nora O'Neil," "Mollie Darling" and "Driven From Home." Of every one of those songs more than 100,000 copies were sold, wlule "Mollie Darling had a sale of more than U00,000, making a fortmio for its publisher, J. L. Peters. Of minor successes, any one of which would have been a glorious triumph for a less fortunate for-tunate composer, Mr. Hays has mudo a hort. Prominent among these are "I'll Pcuieai'er Yon. Lovo, in My Prayers," "Tho Moon Is Out To-niglit, Ixjve," and "Genevieve." The last named must not be confounded with "Sweet Genevieve,'" an entirely different song, written by S. C. Tucker." G. W.
