Goat skins aro treated differently from the skins which moko tho thicker leather, being tanned with mi nine, and all thicknesses of Iho leather being used. The skins of wool bearing animals, like tho sheep, are commonly soft and spongy, and therefore-unsuitable therefore-unsuitable for shoes designed for rough wear, so tho sheep skins are generally used for facings and huings. For our sheep skins wo are indebted to Australia , and South America, and they come- to us by tho way of England, where tho wool I is taken from them and tho skin Bhlpped to us as raw material. Tho various fancy leathers, such as alligator, Beol and the like, aro very oflon sheep and goat leather stumped ahd pressed to Imitate tho genuine article, and kangaroo leather so far from gracing tho back of tho kangaroo, generally hua no higher origin than tho Spanish donkey.
