Show H " Sweet Caporal" Korns And His Side H Kick Dick Morris Fighting Paul M H. W. Lawrence Seems to be on Their Side, Too, on the Theory of "You fl Scratch My Back and I'll Scratch Yours." H It seems that the announcement that Dr. Paul H was reappointed Health Commissioner was a lit- H tie premature. It was announced because some M members of the Commission stated that his H record assured his reappointment, but subse- quently opposition has developed, lead by H "Schanasi Natural" Korns and his side kick, It. M P. Morris. It is reported that H. W. Lawrence M is also lined up with them, which is a great sur- M prise to the friends of Mr. Lawrence, though it H has been persistently ru'mored for a week or two L that he is very desirous of dictating a certain WK appointment, and if it is true that he is lined up H with the Morris "Dukes Cameo" Korns twins, it H follows out a prediction made by this journal M when the commission form of government -was B first broached that unless the right men were H secured, it would mean a system of trades from M the very beginning where one hand washed the H other and favors would be exchanged accord- B "Egyptian Deities" Korns is quoted as having v stated that aside from other reasons for oppos- H ing the reappointment of Paul; He believed the fl people voted for a change of administration M when they seated the Citizens' ticket and that m he thought they should 'be given a change. If m this is true, why have they reappointed any ot M the former employees who held oirice during the M American administration? The real fact of the M matter is that "Pall Mall" Korns has a personal m spite to satisfy in opposing' Paul, and besides m Dr. Paul smokes the deadly cigarette which "Lit- H tie Pet" Korns is making a life effort to abolish. M It is only natural that Richard P. Morris M should assist "The Makins" Korns as he has done M just about everything Dick Miorris has told him fl t) do, they are lined up solidly together, and m have been ever since a little trip they took to H Des Moines. It is an odds on chance that E they will not part company on any appointment M or question which may come before the Commis- M sion during their unfortunate incumbency. A f great pair to draw to, this "Mogul" Korns and M Richard P. Morris who never did anything during H his former administration but stir up trouble and obey the commands of his masters on the corner of South Temple and State. This community is going to get a very fine fill of "Makaroff Korns and the sooner it knows it the better. He has spent innumerable hours in arguing that the Mormon church has never had anything to do with politics in this city or state and he knows in his own conscience that that is absolutely untrue. He 'made the statement in the presence of the writer, find C. N. Strevell whose word is a pretty good one in this community, commun-ity, that the only time the church was ever mixed in politics was during the presidency of Lorenzo Snow, when everyone knows that he was about the best- of the bunch. Mr. "Fatima" Korns is a dangerous man in the position he now occupies and irrespective of whether he wants to do the right thing or not, he is too narrow and bigoted to assist in conducting con-ducting the affairs of this city in a way that will accomplish for it the best results, and it was a sorry day when the rest of the ticket carried him in. The idea of an official of Dr. Paul's ability, whoso efficiency is recognized by everyone who has come in contact with him during his term of office and particularly physicians of standing, being subjected to the attacks of a man whose sole reasons for opposing him are that he uses tobacco and that he balked the said commissioner in his effort to put in a stinking nuisance in a storehouse where food was kept for public distribution, dis-tribution, shows what may be accomplished through personal spite if there are to be agreements agree-ments between the commissioners as to what favors they will grant one another. Henry "W. Lawrence is a man who has had the respect and admiration of the entire community com-munity and a great deal is expected of him. In fact, he is depended upon on account of his long experience and mature judgment to be a balance in this commission, and if he is correctly quoted as being against an official of Dr. Paul's calibre and record, we should like to know what his rea- sons are. If, preceding his occupancy of the chair of commissioner, he was pledged to support some other candidate, that is all right and is his business, and we wIbIi it understood here that in advocating the reappointment of Dr. Paul we have nothing to say against any other candidates; 4 but if there is a lineup of commissioners for the I reasons stated above, or there is to be reclproc- I ity in favors, then it is time that such a thing I should be stopped immediately, for it is bad I enough to have such a hidebound combination as I Dick Morris and "Vanity Fair" Korns working j together without the assistance of anyone else I on the commision. I Neither one of them, while there, will do any- I thing for the betterment of local conditions or I anything that might tend to lessen in a degree the feeling of the different factions here, and before their terms of office are over they will prove this to the entire dissatisfaction of the citizens of Salt Lake. As we and many others said when the commission com-mission form of government was thought of, any three commissioners can combine and absolutely run the commission, and by the same token if a system of trades was entered into and they were strong enough, any two members of the commission could control a third on their side, and there you are. If possible, Morris and "Imperial" Korns will run the town their way, and it is up to the other three commissioners to see that they do not do it. |
