Show THAT NEEDED SANITARIUM. j , H Pessimistic people sometimes ask: "What in- 1 !fl ducements are there for people to come to Salt fl Lake to make their mmes?" The answer is that 1 .j fl it is one of the pljasantest little cities in the ' j ( fl Ij i country, and that its climate is so perfect that if the people would do their duty, it would be the ; , j I healthiest city of its size in the world. As to get- l j J ting people to settle here, we may say that there 1 is room here right now for some hundreds of ! I girls who understand and are willing to do house- work at most generous wages. Then as to men, 1 1 1 it is a clear case that in Bingham district alone, : j some 4000 or 5000 more miners will be wanted ; next year than are engaged there now. And Bingham Bing-ham is a suburb of Salt Lake. But suppose there , I was a sanitarium here where 500 patients could jj be treated on the most approved lines and this 1 1 fact were known east. In a little while the patients jj, would be here and then after a few weeks their I h experience would be published. Then the current ; would set this way and we should begin to see , men and women leave the cure and buy or build ' ! " Homes in the city. Then the tide would set I ! ' steadily this way and we should know in the I ; course of three or four years how Los Angeles , so quickly became a rich and large city. Los j : t i ; Angeles has a soft climate and is surrounded by a ;l few orange groves. The climate, not the orange I ' groves, is what has caused Los Angeles to grow. I j; t And when we come to estimating climates Los ' Angeles does not compare with Salt Lake. Los ' j Angeles is a great place for old people to live ' i fn,- but it is a bad place for weak lungs, and it has not that bracing air which is an incentive to I work every day in the year. All that is needed i 1 here is to provide a great sanitarium, advertise j its advantages for a few months and start the crowd thia way. Then Salt Lake will double in I wealth and people so quickly that people will I , ! I nib their eyes and wonder at the change. There j i , I fs money enough lying idle in either of half a i m dozen banks in the city to build this needed sani- ; 51 tnrium, and properly built it would return a better I i ' jfi interest than any other structure in the city, i ' The east is filled with people who have great F n fortunes, but who are afraid that they are not W going to live to enjoy their money long. Make ( M this city attractive for such people and they will I ;E come here. After they have been here a little I iH while and fully take in the place, a great many j H of them will make their homes here and help to Hp build up the shining city which is to be on this j H site.
