Lateiner, as pro- . duced at the Theatre on Wednesday by David M Levinson, Rosa Karp and other Yiddish pvis, ii with the help of some dilapidated house scenery and a small but enthusiastic audience of understanding under-standing ones, was tho first attraction at the Theatre The-atre during the week. That is, it was .attractive to some, but others who attended in tho hope after af-ter the vivid press promises that the acting was so marvelous that it wasn't necessary to understand under-stand what was said, wore somewhat disappointed, disap-pointed, though they gathered a little lmuiust from the work of Rosa Karp, David Levinson and Isadore Goldenberg. The singing of Miss Karp was one of tho most pleasing features of a performance per-formance which, for the most part, was tiresome-ly tiresome-ly long, one of lengthy scenes and boresome Inaction. In-action. Adolph Lalensky, the comedian of the company, had an Idea that he was tenlbly funny. This was about the funniest thing in the performance perform-ance the idea. If, as has been said, this was the company from which Nazimova, Mme. Kallsh, and later the less pietentlous though clever Ellscu, graduated, they are all to be congratu lated on their escape. It ould seem that the leal reason for the company being on the road is because even East Side New York is tired of it, which might be easily possible with any community, Yiddish or otherwise. |
