Show GOLF. Qualifying play for the August leg of the Directors' Di-rectors' handicap cup at the Country Club course brought out more of the handicap men than any previous event this season, and some new names are in the list of qualifiers for the match play, which begins today. That the course is improving improv-ing rapidly, and that the play of the handicap men is also improving, is shown in the scores turned in, and the chances are that the scratch and low handicap men will again have a hard row to hoe in the match play. The pairings for the first round (at 18 holes) are as follows: Salisbury (3) vs. Gemmell (4). Judge (7) vs. Hampton (9). Copp (Sci'atch) vs. McGurrin (scratch). Steiner (5) vs. Ellerbeck (8). There has been a rapid shifting of names in the club classification list in the last few days. Billy Igleheart has been especially peevish in his defense of his own position on the list and very pronounced in his desire to join the climbers. So lias George Steiner, likewise Bob Gemmell. The golf schedule for August will be posted by the greens committee Saturday. As the intex1-mountain intex1-mountain tennis tournament will be played on the Country Club courts the latter part of the month, all the events will be concluded earlier than usual in order not to conflict with the tennis tourney. The usual monthly handicap for the men players will probably be played on the 22nd and 23rd, and the women's handicap will also be concluded by the 2Gth. A. W. C. |
