B The wedding was one of the most fashionable B x events of the season in San Francisco society cir- H cles. The bride is the oldest daughter of Robert B Murdock, cashier and manager of the United B States National bank of San Francisco and is one B I of the most beautiful and talented girls in- San B s Francisco society circles. Tall, slender and dark, !R I she is possesed of a charming personality and rare musical talent. Owing to the social prominence promi-nence of the bride and the prominence in finan- m?- i cial circles of Mr. "Wingfleld the marriage has at- 1 ! tracted widespread attention. As the business as- B', '' sociate of United States Senator George S. Nixon If of Nevada and as part owner of the Goldfleld H' Consolidated, Mr. Wingfleld is known as a mil- B. ' lionaire several times over and one of the rich- H; l ost men In the west. Democratic and well-met, H he is popular wherever he is known. H' ' The marriage at the Murdock home was sol- H I emnized with only the members of the families of H' j the couple and their immediate fi lends present. B ! The bride wore a magnificent empire g6wn H of white Duchess satin, trimmed with rare old B , lace, with a shower bouquet of white orchids and B- the superb diamond ornaments which were the B bridal gift of the groom. Her traveling gown "was H an orchid colored voile, in tailored effect, with jH which she wore a large orchid shaded hat with B v I black Paradise plumes. jHj V Following the ceremony Mr. Wingfleld and his B' I k bride left for Los Angeles. They go to New York H: , j at once and then sail for the continent. Mr. Wing- jH ' j field's big motor car has been shipped to Europe H! and they will tour a large part of the continent H 1 in the machine, returning to San Francisco early H next year. B Mr. Wingfleld is now erecting a palatial resl- H f dence in Goldfleld where he will reside with his jH bride a large portion of the time. H fc fc5 w m n The largest affair that has been given at the B V " Country Club this season was a luncheon fol- H lowed by bridge Wednesday afternoon, with Mrs. B i Hubbard W. Reed as hostess and Mrs. Edwin F. Hi i Holmes as the guest of honor. The party was H: given to welcome Mrs. Holmes after her long trip Bi i. abroad and later in California. The tables for bridge were arranged on the broad veranda of the club house, and the luncheon tables laid in the private dining room, with decorations of white and green. Green ribbons added to the color effect. ef-fect. The guests to meet Mrs. Holmes were Mrs. David Keith, Mrs. W. Edward Fife, Mrs. George C. Moore, Mrs. George Y. Wallace, Mrs. H. Vance Lane, Mrs. H. G. McMillan, Mrs. Alexander C. Ewlng, Mrs. Henry P. Henderson, Mrs. F. L. Oswald, Os-wald, Mrs. Richard A. Keyes, Mrs. Robert Glen-dinning, Glen-dinning, Mjlss Greta Cosgriff, Mrs. J. V. White, of Detroit, and Miss Margaret Field, of Chicago. v fr 5 The George H. Rathamans and the W. M. Bradleys have entertained extensively this week for Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Winsor, who, with their daughter, Florence, and their two sons, Frank and George, of Mitchell, S. Cunningham will be home from their European trip the last week of the month. & & Among those who entertained at the Country Club Wednesday were Mrs. C. R. Pearsall and Mrs. H. D. Niles. c5 5 t3 Among the additions to the Brighton colony during the week has been Miss Ethel Woodman-see, Woodman-see, Miss Ruth Abbott, Edward Terry Brown, and Marjorie and Lavinia Brown. V t5 V If the fashion now prevalent in Paris and New York is in vogue locally this winter we shall have our first nights at the playhouses graced by decol-lette decol-lette gowns. The latest decollete is of the Directoire cut, modest and square and gowns are even being designed de-signed in such fashion for smart afternoon affairs, according to a matron who has just returned from the east. Decollette at the theaters will be rather a startling innovation, to say the least, and yet why not? tJ j & Mrs. Frank Knox has gone to the coast for several weeks' stay. 7 2 w Colonel and Mrs. Holmes are entertaining Dr. and Mrs. J. V. White, of Detroit, at Oakwood, Colonel Holmes' summer place. Mrs. White Is the eldest daughter of Colonel Holmes, and has visited vis-ited here before. & ct c Invitations are out for a spread and reception in honor of J. A. Greenewald and his bride at Lagoon, August 10. Mrs. William Igldheart and Mrs. R. R. Wood- j bridge entertained Informally at the Country Club j Wednesday. 2& fr v5 One of the prettiest home weddings of the week was that of Miss Mary Smyth and Owen Wilkinson, Wednesday evening, at the home ot the bridegroom. t5 fcj Jw An interesting stag affair of the early part of the week was the Dutch supper given by C. B. Onderdonk to a score of his friends, Tuesday evening, even-ing, in celebration of his birthday. j & & & j Lieutenant Loring has returried from L09 An- i geles, where he was called by the sudden illness of his grandmother recently. He will start shortly to join his company at Fort D. A. Russell. t5 3 cm Mrs. Joel L. Priest will entertain this morning morn-ing for her guest, Miss Polly Klmmel, of Kentucky. Ken-tucky. O W ? Lieutenant Kneeland S. Snow and Lieutenant Geary will be home today or the .first of the week from Leon Springs, Tex., where they went to take part in the rifle contest. Lieutenant Geary will remain at the Post and Lieutenant Snow will proceed pro-ceed to join his regiment on the manoeuvre ground in Wyoming. c c J Local friends of Rex Beach, the popular young Chicago novelist, author of "The Spoilers," have been greatly concerned the past week over the report from Seattle that Mr. Beach has been taken tak-en to a hospital in that city suffering from an eye disease contracted in Alaska two weeks ago while j on a hunting trip. He was totally blind when taken tak-en to the hospital and grave doubts were entertained enter-tained that he would ever be able to see again. Reports late this week state that his sight is returning re-turning slowly and that he will recover. jl jt ji Colonel Walter Scott, who was forced to return re-turn from the manoeuvre grounds last week, is improving, im-proving, and expects to join his regiment within ten days. 2& Miss Frances Savage, one of the most popular girls of the younger set, leaves in a few days to join her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Savage, and her sister, Miss Katherlne Savage, of Chicago, in Olympia, Wash. Miss Savage is a girl of charming personality, and has become very popular popu-lar here. She will be married in November to L. 11 F. Curtis, managing editor of the Cleveland Leader. O t? W Miss Margaret Field's visit at Lingerlonger has been a succession o parties and receptions, at all jr of which MVs. O. W. Powers' very popular visitor has been a guest of honor. Miss Field leaved town very soon. . , & Mrs. Heber M. Wells is entertaining Mrs. A. E. Tripp, at Brighton. : & & George Ititer spent several days in town this week on a short trip in from his mines in Idaho. & & & A very pretty wedding of the month was the marriage Monday evening of Miss Florence Mabel Carlson and Fred Midgley, well known in local musical circles. The ceremony was performed by Bishop Williams, in the presence of some seventy-five seventy-five relatives and friends. The house was profusely pro-fusely decorated with roses and sweet peas, and a dainty supper followed the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Midgley will be at home after August 15, at the Lund apartments on Seventh East. Mrs. F. K. Butler, of Denver, a sister of the bride, attended at-tended the wedding. & & $ Fisher Harris came down Thursday for the week-end at the club, beautifully tanned and voice greatly improved. & g & Mi, and Mrs. Joseph H. Young and children left Monday for Berkeley, Cal. |
