H il The riding club was out in force the other morning, two men and two buds, president, vice-president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer, and one of the buds who is averse' to looking upon the compliment compli-ment when it is flat, told me of a clever retort made by the treasurer to the president. The riders were down by Smoot's on the county road, when the president leaning over toward the treasurer, treas-urer, said, as he looked into her delicious eyes: "I love sweet things." "Is that why you brought us down to Sugar House ward?" asked the fair one, "gee-up." In a moment, the president looked at his watch exclaiming, "My, we must hurry to town." "What for," came the chorus. "So. we can ride up Main street when the churches let out." "Why?" "Because there's no fun in riding rid-ing if people don't see you." And we hear tell of the vanity of women. v 5 v Mrs. Babcock says that her stay in Tennessee will be indefinite, all of which is unwelcome news to her many friends In the gay set. 5 t v There will be twenty or thirty "farewell" dinners din-ners given during the summer for Mrs. Belvin and Mrs. McGillicuddy. Only three have been recorded re-corded the past week. fc$ tV W Miss Margaret Dills of the Rose Coghlan company com-pany was the guest of Mrs. Wm. P. Kiser during her stay in the city, and yesterday afternoon Mrs. Kiser entertained at a tea in honor of her guest and Miss Coghlan. 10 &fr ir Marriage is a lottery, Not by the twinkling stars, Marrriage is a pottery, Where they make the family jars. & fcj 5 Another desperate effort will be made to open the Country club today, and a number of attractive attract-ive parties have been made up to ride out to the grounds. Mrs. Holman and Mrs. Harkness will be hostes'ses. Two delightful musicalea occurred on Monday evening In the Commercial club building. The Commercial club muslcale was largely attended and a beautiful program was rendered by Mrs. Agnes Osborne, Agatha Berkhoel, Wlllard Welhe, and Walter1 Wallace. The studio recital of MrB. Martha Royle King and Miss Lillian Oliver was another artistic success, thoroughly enjoyed by the many guests. 5 5 w Seldom has the little green dining room at the Commercial club held such a well chosen bunch of live ones as attended a litte luncheon there on Saturday, given by a Mr. Hilarity. The way the repartee flew was a caution and from the time of the drop of the starter's flag it was neck and neck (all kinds of necks, too) to see who could win out at the finish. & ff efi A wedding of Miss Lucile Jennings and Mr. Le Roy Dlnwoodey, which took place at the home of Mrs. W. Scott Crismon in San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon was an event of great interest in-terest to their host of friends in this city, and it is nice to know that after their honeymoon they will make their home in this city. The wedding was a very quiet affair, relatives and intimate friends only being present. The bride was unattended, unat-tended, and Mr. Harry Roberts was best man for Mr. Dinwoodey. They will be at home in the Miller flats after June 1st. |
