Show The testimony of Patriarch Angus Cannon will cause a more lasting shock to the people of the eastern states than did that of President Joseph F. Smith. His statement that he married two sisters on the same day will cause a revulsion against the whole polygamous system which will never be overcome. Then his further admissions of the power of the church over temporal matters, though guarded in phrase, did not conceal the manifest fact and the immediate conclusion of eastern people will be that whatever merits Mr. Smoot may possess he is not just the right sort of person to help make the laws of this republic. The church here in Utah should see the danger and readjust the system on American lines. |
