Show THE QUEEN CITY. San Francisco is pressing steadily to the front as a great commercial city. The Argonaut gives the figures to show "the dominant fact that the San Francisco, clearing house transacts more business busi-ness than all the clearing houses of Los Angeles, Seattle, Salt Lake, Portland, Spokane, Tacoma, Helena, Sioux Falls, Denver, rhjperca, Fremont, Wichita and Colorado Springs put .together." And no other city is jealous of San Francisco. Does she not sit like a Queen by the Golden Gate? Is not her harbor the only real one for six hundred miles north or sbuth? Is not the state behind the city, the fairest and richest in native resources in the Union? Why, now that the trans-Pacific trade is beginning to take on colossal proportions "why should .not the beautiful city begin to expand by leaps and bounds? Since '49 the Argonouts and their, descendents have claimed a. part proprietorship proprietor-ship in the great place. She cannot become rich enough or fair enough to excite anything but admiration ad-miration in the thoughts of her neighbors. |
