Show LITERARY NOTES. "Manchu and Muscovite." "Manchu and Muscovite" is the title of Mr. Putnam Weale's important new book on Manchuria, which has just appeared. It consists largely in letters let-ters written to a leading English journal jour-nal during the last autumn, popular in character, and packed with interesting inter-esting facts about the country and the people. A historical sketch entitled "Prologue to the Crisis" gives a complete com-plete account of the Manchurlan frontiers fron-tiers and their history from the earliest ear-liest days, and of the growth and final meeting of the Russian and Chinese empires in tho Amur regions. The book is fully illustrated from photographs. photo-graphs. The volume includes picturesque and graphic accounts of Port Arthur, Dalny, Harbin, and the whole region El flHB of the Far Eastern war.
