Show Senator Kearns, during his recent sojourn in Denver, was interviewed extensively on the political politi-cal situation in Utah. Extracts fiom some of the printed Interviews follow: "Senator Ksarns will be a candidate for re election before the Utah Legislature this year and he is naturally anxious. He is looking for help from this State. The Senator was mysterious about his visit. He did not register although he had a room at tho Brown Palace Hotel. To those who discussed politics with him, Senator Sen-ator Kearns expressed his belief that Utah would go Republican this year. The Church question was bound to Interfere, but the fact that a Republican Republi-can Congress insisted on going into the heart of Mormondom would not place the Church against the party. Senator Kearns does not belong to the Mormon church, although he was elected by a Mormon votes. He expects that the Church influence in-fluence will be his this time." How gratifying. Another: "Senator Kearns is up for re-election this year j . . --.. . .. ., .. ... and snys that he feels confident of being returned to the Senate." We wonder if all this confidence is inspired by the fact that this year "the Church influence will be his." And if he haa that influence on his side, why waste time "looking for aid" from Colorado. Surely it is not possible that the Park Cityite has forgotten the omnipotoncy of that same "influence" "influ-ence" which he paid for and received before. |
