Show Although no intimation is given of this in the joint committee's report, defalcation and fraud are ' alleged in connection with the handling of the fund of the St. Louis commission, and the supposed sup-posed irregularities are now under investigation at the county attorney's office. For a number of weeks there have heen rumors ru-mors of bogus vouchers and forged orders, involving in-volving a man in the confidence of the board, but these have necessarily been difficult of verification. verifica-tion. The information was sufficiently strong, however, to create a small storm of protest from Representative Joseph when the committee's report, re-port, which eulogizes the board and mattes no mention of any irregular transactions, was presented pre-sented in the lower house. The report submitted by the joint committee covers fully tho situation as far as their investigations investi-gations went. The vouchers are all there, all the money is accounted for, and if there are in the St. Louis documents orders bearing a forged name, that is a matter for consideration by the county attorney, and even he will bo unable to act unless some ono comes forward with a definite defi-nite charge of defalcation or forgery. |
