Show Ira ! , r- , PfUi VN s I 'i ; Stephen Rundquist has taken his new position as Garfield School District counselor. He recently arrived from his former post at Twentynine Palms, California where he has been in school work. Indifference, Apathy Target of Counselor "Nothing teaches indifference and apathy better than indiffernece and apathy" believes Garfield County School District's new counselor Stephen Rundquist. But Rundquist is anything but indifferent in-different and apathetic and little of the two will be taught by this outgoing and energetic new addition to the school district staff. He is excited about his new job and looks forward to working with parents, teachers, and the young . people of the area. He states that the "primary purpose of education is to develop individuals who are capable of intelligent choice, responsible decision making, self-directed self-directed action, and who will continue to grow in their ability to live joyous, humane, productive, and meaningful lives." His desire, he says, is to serve as a catalyst in establishing positive relationships and understandings among pupils, parents, the school, and the community. Rundquist comes with his family from Twentynine Palms, CAlif ., where he served as counselor at Twentynine Palms High School. His background is varied in the educational field with much of his career having been spent in teaching music before going into counseling. At one time or another he has taught almost every traditional high school subject. He is delighted with counseling, coun-seling, it being his first choice, but likes choral music, social sciences, and instrumental music, in that order. Always concerned about and involved in-volved with young people, and motivated by an ever present enthusiasm en-thusiasm to tackle new challenges, he took 72 young musicians from Twentynine Twen-tynine Palms High School on a concert tour of Europe in 1974. Not unusual in itself, Rundquist's tour was unique in that his students not only raised the entire $77,000 for their trip in their small community of 9,000, but managed to perform 21 times in 29 days through eight different countries from London to Rome. For this achievement, Rundquist was selected for the International In-ternational Edition of "Who's Who in Music" and 72 young people lived a dream to tell their grandchildren about. Rundquist brings an impressive list of accomplishments with him to Panguitch, none the least of which is bis lovely wife, Gundl, and his four effervescent ef-fervescent children with their charming char-ming Swedish names, Leif-Erick Trulsson, 10; Lars-Erik Wilhelm, 8; Liesl-Britt Kerstin, 5, and baby, Leia-Britt Leia-Britt Vivian, four months. |
