Show Shelton To Receive National Honor For Interpretive Excellence On Nove. 18, Carolyn Shelton, Interpretive Supervisor for the Grand Staircase-Escalante Staircase-Escalante National Monument, will receive BLMis 2004 Gold Award for "Excellence in Interpretation and Environmental Education." Shelton will be honored at the National Association for Interpretation Workshop in Grand Rapids, Michigan for her outstanding work in managing the design and construction of five new BLM interpretive centers cen-ters located in Kanab, Escalante, Big Water, Glendale, and Cannonville, Utah. Utilizing her extensive skills and talent, Shelton expertly guided the integration of scientific scien-tific content into the creation of fully-accessible exhibits and programs reflecting different themes for each center. The themes are as follows: Kanab, geology and archaeology; Escalante, biologyecology; Big Water, paleontology; Glendale, regional opportunities; and Cannonville, the human landscape. land-scape. The number of visitor centers and the extensive public and tribal input into the planning resulted in imaginative and engaging new exhibits designed to stand alone and serve as a foundation for educational curricula, cur-ricula, delighting and educating students and visitors of all ages. |
