Show GSCALMTE tlUVJS i By Marlene Haws 826-4859 marlenehcolor-country.net Bill and Bev Kuhns are home to stay for a while. They spent five weeks in Quartzite, Ariz., where Ken and Gayle Prentice are, and after returning home they went to California for a week to attend a wedding. Spencer Rex, son of Jeff and JoEtt Marie Rex 'has been called to serve a LDS mission in Brazil. He is really excited (and so is his dad) because that is where both his dad and grandfather grandfa-ther served while, they were on missions. Marjie Spencer's grandson, Justin Spencer, who lives in New York recently shared honors hon-ors with two of his firefighting buddies as Firemen of the Year. Their latest heroic efforts were to rescue a mother and her four childrenv from a burning two story building. Justin's father, Lee Spencer, has also reached hero status a time or two in his day as a fireman. And like a lot of other places they are all volunteers, vol-unteers, but get a lot of satisfaction satisfac-tion in helping their fellow men in perilous situations. Marjie had another son and his family here for the Easter weekend. Fred and DeEtte Spencer, Vernal, and their two daughters, Misty and Tonya were here to join with Marjie, Janalee and Louie Bernardo, MaeVonn Taylor, . Heather Spencer and her friend, Jared, St. George; Jimmy and Ethel Taylor and their family, Salt Lake. They had a good time roaming the area and having a picnic. Julie Ford and Velma Boulter just got back from a trip to the Northern part of the state. Velma visited with her daughter, Sondra Boulter and family and Kenneth and Marie Griffin in Provo. Julie went on to West Jordan to visit her daughter Teresa and family. Can't stay away from those grandkids when you've helped raise them! Ben Porter called us the other day and wanted us to come and see his solid color, sorrel, pinto colt! He felt quite bad that it didn't have spots. Ben and Renee recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. Their kids came at Easter time to help them celebrate. Bryce and Dianne Porter, their daughter daugh-ter Talara Burr and tiny daughter Madison came from Provo; Charlotte and Norm Johnson came from Orem and Shelley and Jim Olsen from St. George. The rest of their family saved their vacation time for the Porter reunion here on Memorial Day weekend. Ruth Baugh, Tropic, visited her sister, Renee Porter, here last Thursday. Ruth is still in that "limbo" state that we all go through when we are in between a full time job and retirement! But don't worry, Ruth, you will soon wonder how you found time to work! Francis and Barbara Imlay, Warren and Linda Haycock and their four children, Eddie, Shayley, Sashsa and Harley, all went to Blanding for Easter. They enjoyed a visit with John and Jonni Imlay and their chil- : i dren, London and Ryan. They also celebrated Francis and Barbara's 41st wedding anniversary anniver-sary (Apr. 21st) and Francis's birthday (Apr. 24th). He says he is 12? (The way I figure it he is adding 6 and 6?) Around 15 ladies attended the Adult Abuse Awareness Training session at Rubys Inn last week. No men from here. They probably are not afraid of being abused! Those who went were: Deon Alvey, Julie Ford, Beth Smith, Velma Boulter, Betty Alvey, Rolaine Alvey, Marlene Haws, Golda Cottam, Brenda Lyman, Angelique Griffin, Carrie Griffin, Darlene Edmiston, Trish Lake, Lean Griffin and Marlene Stowe. It was a fun day. Good speakers with lots of good advice, a very good meal and lots of great door prizes! Well worth the time. Quite a large group of ladies, from Escalante also attended the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Convention in Orderville last week. They were: Sheila Faulkner, Rolain Alvey, Carolyn Porter, Velma Boulter, Deon Alvey, Golda Cottam, Julie Ford, Ardis Christensen, Sandra Miller, Sandra Porter, Betty Alvey, Lana Christian and Anne Spencer. The group honored Everetta Crofts, Orderville, this year. She is Julie Ford's mother, so Julie was glad to be there for her. Friends of Mac Edmiston (See ESCALANTE on page 6A) Escalante From Page 4A invited him to come to Price and go fishing at a lake near there. When they got there the weather wouldn't cooperate at all so they called it quits to wait for better days. Mac was hardly gone long enough for Darlene to miss him! Clorine Vidrine's grandson, Nathan Vidrine, came from Mountain Green and took her back home with him. I don't know if it is time for Nathan to leave on his LDS mission or not, but there was also a great-grand-baby being blessed so they wanted Clorene to be there for the eveht(s). Ken and Gail Prentice are here after spending the winter in Quartzite, Ariz. Bill and Bev Kuhns went back to California again to be with Bill's brother who is critically criti-cally ill. Lynn and Mildred Gates are home from Mesa, Ariz. They brought the cold weather back with them. Or at least it arrived about the same time they did! Mike and Lori Porter, LaVerkin, visited a few days with Mikes parents, Don and Gwen Porter. |
