Show State, County ; Unemployment Rates For March 2003 Statewide, the seasonally-. seasonally-. adjusted unemployment rate for March climbed to 5.8 percent. Approximately 69,200 Utahns . were unemployed in March 2003, a 5.4 percent decrease against March 2002 when the unemployment rate was' 6.2 percent. per-cent. February's rate was unre-vised unre-vised at 5.3 percent. Mark Knold, Senior Economist for the Department of Workforce Services (DWS) observed, "The unemployment rate moved up noticeably this month. This movement appears to contradict the improving employment situation we are currently seeing in Utah. But people may be perceiving an improving economy and reentering reenter-ing the labor force looking for a job but not yet finding one. Seasonally adjusted unemployment unem-ployment rates for March in Garfield County showed 12.3 percent for 2003 compared with 14.1 percent for March 2002. January and February 2003 show 10.3 percent and 11.0 percent per-cent respectively. Rates for Kane County show 6.8 percent for March 2003 compared with 4.7 percent for March 2002. January and February 2003 show 4.3 percent and 5.1 percent respectively. |
