Pilot, Aircraft Mechanic Starts New Business At Panguitch Airport PANGUITCH - Jerry Jorgensen, 53, a Panguitch resi- , dent who moved here last summer sum-mer is one of Panguitch's newest entrepreneurs. Jorgensen, a certified commercial com-mercial pilot and aircraft mechanic, is owner and operator of Jorgensen Aero Service. He is married to Suzanne Jorgensen, Family and Consumer Science Extension Agent in Panguitch for Utah State University. Jorgensen received his mechanics certificate at USU in Logan in 1975. He worked as a lab technician at Thiokol in Brigham City for 12 years before deciding work in his field of education. He obtained his pilot's license in 1986 and enjoyed flying more as a hobby for some time. After departing Thiokol in 1989, he worked on repair and maintenance of Army planes at Dugway Proving Grounds west of Tooele for three years. He also worked on private planes in the Salt Lake City area as a mechanic at a small airport in West Valley. Then he moved to Cedar City for a couple years working at Scenic Airlines and relocated to St. George. He met and married Suzanne six years ago in St. George while she was working for the extension service. She is originally from New Mexico and he from Logan. Garfield County was without an agent for some time and USU prompted them to make the move from St. George to Panguitch. They liked the idea of moving to a cooler climate and thought the scenery was spectacular. After moving to Garfield County, Jorgensen became aware that there are many planes owned and operated in this area. He specializes in annual aircraft inspections and continues scenic flights in Garfield and surrounding surround-ing areas. He owns an Aviat Husky, a modern version of the Piper Super Cub. Though it seats only two people, it is particularly par-ticularly versatile for the canyons and terrain of this area. He is also currently rebuilding a 1940 Piper Cub, and, for fun, enjoys building and flying model airplanes. He is looking forward when the weather gets little better bet-ter to exploring all of Garfield County. Jerry and Suzanne travel by air regularly to attend family events in Logan. |
