Show r "! r ' i 1 c Laine Sevy 80th Birthday For Sevy PANGUITCH - Laine Sevy celebrated his 80th birthday at his winter home in Santa Clara on Sept. 18 with family. He was born in Escalante, Sept. 18, 1924 to Richard Earl and Hazel Pollock Sevy. ' Earl and Hazel moved to Panguitch in 1928 and lived there for the rest of their lives. Laine graduated gradu-ated from Garfield High Sc'h'dol in 1942. While attending B.A.C. in Cedar City, he enlisted in the o U.S. Army Air Corps oil Dec. 7, 1942. He was called' to' active duty in March' '1943 - and received his aviation cade't'train-ing cade't'train-ing in Texas and Dklahorria, receiving his pilots wings'-'in 1944. nHe became a pilot of a B-17 B-17 bomber and was sent to Italy for combat duty. Laine flew 25 combat missions over Germany and Austria before the 'war in Europe ended. ' ' He graduated from Utah State in 1949 with a B.S. in civil engineering, engi-neering, and worked for the California Division of Highways in Stockton, Calif, for 36 years, retiring in 1985. Laine married Gloria Goulding in Panguitch on Dec. 31, 1950. They were later endowed in the Oakland LDS Temple. They are the parents of four children: Richard Laine (Vickie) Sevy, Bruce K. Sevy, LeeAnne (Randy) Bunn and Sandra Eileen Sevy. They have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Laine and Gloria moved back to Utah in 1989, spending their summers in Panguitch and winters win-ters in Santa Clara. They recently recent-ly completed three years as ordinance ordi-nance workers in the St. George LDS Temple. . His time and effort is now spent between Gloria, family, church, golf, fishing, gardening, home improvement and being a fixerupper, in that priority order. |
