Panguitch played their diamond defense to perfection and turned loose a dominating defense to show the state tournament crowd what they were capaable of doing. The five senior starters and junior Casey Christensen were simply dominant. domi-nant. Devin Englestead concluded con-cluded his career with 18 ' points, Adam Howard was everywhere and hit 16, Acey Burningham dished and served up 14 of his own, Christensen rebounded and nailed 14, Brett Sawyer blocked and shot in 10 and Landon Fullmer hustled and defended and finished with 9 in the rout. Coaches Arlin Sawyer and Glen Partridge surely must have been pleased with the final game. The Bobcats began the tourney tour-ney by pasting Dugway 69-50. Acey Burningham ripped off 19 and Casey Christensen 14 in that one. Three players made 8 points each- Adam Howard, Bret Sawyer and Lanny Fullmer. The second day, the Bobcats had a rematch of last year's final against Waterford, the ultimate champ of the tournament. The Bobcats finally got the lead at 32-3 1 in the fourth quarter, but a miss by Panguitch and a three by the Ravens put the game out of reach. Panguitch fouled at the end, but Waterford hit the charity tosses and won 50-40. Sawyer. had 10, Burningham 9 and Christensen 7 in the loss. In the first half, Waterford shot 61 percent and Panguitch 38 percent per-cent while only making 9 of 21 free throws. That combination spelled defeat. In their other game, PHS defeated Manilla 68-57. 68-57. Burningham rammed in 17, Fullmer 11, Christensen 9, Howard 9 and Englestead 8. Escalante just missed getting into the finals last week, losing to Manilla 51-50. Devin Shakespear had his best game ever as he and Lucas Schulkoski each bombed in 20 points. Escalante finished the season strong, after a long battle of getting get-ting things together. Congrats to Brent Cottam, Tyson Brinkerhoff and Karl Roundy for their efforts in building the Moquis after the tragic loss of Coach Jim Smith. |
