J , i s The Panguitch High Bobcats, along with three boys put up a tough fight and won this game over other teams from around the state, participated in Altamont, 68-58, but lost to number-one-ranked the Panguitch Shoot Out over the weekend. Bobcats Take Second At Shoot Out By John Yardley PANGUITCH Bryce Valley boys continued their winning ways during the holidays as they broke open a 30-30 half-time tie to defeat the Mustangs from Dugway 65-50. Seniors Shanon Pollock and Wayne Ottmade 18 and 17 points, respectively, respec-tively, to lead the hometown Bryce Valley Mustangs. Bryce Valley and their fire power simply blew out Dugway, outscoring them 35-20 in the second half. The Green River Pirates, the number-one-ranked team in 1A, defeated de-feated home team Panguitch for the championship of the Second Annual An-nual Panguitch Shoot-out, 73-53. The Pirates beat the Bobcats badly in the first quarter, then cruised to victory. Panguitch lost their fine senior, Jason Barney to a serious knee injury early in the first quarter. Stars Slade Bigelow and Kalin Par- sons were too tough for the Bobcats on this night. Dusty Orton hit for 23 to lead Panguitch High School. The Bobcats were a miserable 1 3 of 33 from the charity stripe. The first night, Panguitch defeated de-feated Altamont in a strong come from behind second half to win 68-58. 68-58. Orton scored 17 third quarter points and finished with 28. That offensive outburst, along with Coach Scott Hunt's famous diamond dia-mond press defense, were big keys in this one. Jaycen Walter hit 11, Jason Barney 10 and Skyler Dalton 9 for PHS. Junior Clint Pollock came off the bench and hit two key shots to help the Bobcat cause. Pollock also won the free throw shooting competition in the tournament tour-nament Olympics, hitting a perfect ten for ten. Green River defeated Enterprise 67-65 in their opening game. Bigelow Bi-gelow was named MVP of the tournament while teammate, Parsons, Par-sons, Dusty Orton and Skyler Dalton Dal-ton of PHS, Tim Shurtliff of Enterprise En-terprise and Tate Sorenson of Altamont Alta-mont rounded out the All Tournament Tourna-ment Team. The tournament seemed to be a great success. Special Spe-cial boosters were honored and recognized rec-ognized between games of this holiday tourney. In girls action, Escalante held off Valley 29-27 to hold onto third place in the region standings. |
