Show Lady Cats Leave Region With A Strong Third Place Win; Head For State By Mack Oetting PANGUITCH - Panguitch's Lady Cats entered Region 15 volleyball tourney as heavy favorites having conquered all the top teams, but will head for state with a 3rd place win. They ran into a buzz saw with the Milford Lady Tigers. The Lady Cats had 32 kills, but many were blocked and 'the Cats who had beaten Milford once before, ended their unbeaten streak for the season. The Tigers won 15-12 15-12 and 16-14, behind their very good hitters, the Holm sisters Brook and Mallory. When the Cats played Milford here, Milford had trouble with their serve and it cost them dearly; at region, they missed only a few to make the difference. In Panguitch's second game against Escalante, it went much better for the Cats and they took out the Lady Moquis easily in two games, 15-4 and 15-10 with the whole team getting in some action in the second game. Panguitch was scheduled for a play-in game against Wendover on Tuesday. Wendover went in with a record of 6-1 1 . At state competition on Friday at Utah Valley State College, Panguitch will play Salt Lake Lutheran (13-1) at 9 a.m., and if Escalante was successful suc-cessful in getting by West Desert (8-6), they will also play on Friday at 9 a.m. against Waterford. Bryce Valley also had a play-in game against Tintic (11-4). The playoff game at Region between Milford and Piute was a slugfest. Rick Blackwell, Panguitch, whose daughter (See LADY CATS on page 4A) Lady Cats From Front Page Morgan plays for Piute, told me the T-Birds had two teams, and the A team showed at Region. They played their best ball of the year and the games were great to watch, and fans who stayed were treated to some fierce competition. competi-tion. The T-Birds, led by Morgan Blackwell, hustled and the games were very close with the Tigers' Holm sisters doing most of the damage. The final, 15-3, 16-14. The Tigers play at 10:30 a.m. on Friday against the winner of the Christian HeritageAltamont game. The T-Birds play the winner win-ner of the St. JosephManila game, also at 10:30. Sydney Houston and Shauna Sawyer were selected to the Region 15 All-Star team The Lady Cats have had a great year and this little setback won't slow them when they get to state, where everything starts all over. How they rebounded against the Moquis, a team they had trouble with, shows everything will be all right. There were a whole lot of fans who traveled down to Valley in Orderville for a real treat. We hope to see lots of them at state. Good luck, Lady Cats. |
