Show By Marva Fletcher 679-8521 We are saddened by the death of Jim Smith and extend to Rae and family deepest sympathy. Many from here attended the funeral on Thursday. The missionary dinner for Lloyd Mathews and Jim and Erma Clarke held here on Saturday night was a success and a delicious meal was served to a large crowd. Erma Clarke was presented a beautiful double wedding ring quilt as a token of appreciation for her many years serving in the LDS Relief Society, The Clarkes' farewell on Sunday literally strained the chapel at the seams. Chairs were set up in the. aisles, the Relief Society room was filled and also people gathered in classrooms where it was carried by the public address system. Speakers' Speak-ers' were sons Ralph Clarke and Arthur Ar-thur Clarke, followed by a musical number by the grandchildren. Jim and Erma then spoke. All but two of their children were there with their families. Those who attended were Michael Clarke of Mesa, Ariz.; Arthur and Nanette Clarke and children from Las Vegas, Nev.; Kevin and Cheryl Garrett and children chil-dren of Cedar City; Jim and Bertha Shelly and family of Mesa, Ariz., along with many friends and relatives rela-tives from the surrounding areas. The Clarkes left on Monday to spend a day at LDS church headquarters head-quarters in Salt Lake City and then drove on to Baton Rouge, La., where Jim will help to coordinate the seminaries and institutes in the area under the church education system. sys-tem. We wish them well, but will miss them. Jim has taught the Gospel Doctrine class in Sunday school for almost 24 years. Also in LDS church Sunday, Monte Twitchell was released as Primary teacher and sustained as Gospel Doctrine teacher. Kay Dunham and Chris McCormick were sustained as Primary teachers. Visiting Marva Fletcher on Tuesday were Kerry and Dawna Nelson of LaVerkin and - Kerry's cousin, Eleen and her husband, AJ-den AJ-den Rigby of Bountiful. Rosie Fletcher also spent the holiday Monday with her mother, Marva Fletcher. George and Ada Thompson came from their winter home in Las Vegas to attend funeral services for Jim Smith and to check on their home here. Cornell Willis, Orem is visiting his mother, Bonnie Willis and doing do-ing some repair work on her home. Arjean Twitchell attended the Region Drill Team competition in Cedar City on Saturday. Cherlyn Twitchell 's friend, Blake Downs of Midway, Utah visited here. Also visiting for Sunday dinner were Doug and Tammy Twitchell and family and Karl and Lori Munford and family of Cedar City. Don't know if we can agree to let go of this beautiful weather long enough to get the rain or snow that we desperately need. We have mixed views on the subject. |
