Show Tropic Uqvjz By Lynn Munson 679-8627 Recent visitors with Malen and Marian Mecham were granddaughter and husband Becky and Brian Broadbent of Iowa. They brought their baby son Braden to his great-grandparents. great-grandparents. Becky is Val Shakespear's daughter. They received re-ceived word that another great-grandson great-grandson had been born to Christopher Christo-pher and Christi Shakespear. Christopher is Dean Shakespear's son. Grandson Scott, son of Palma and Roland Miles of Cedar City, received re-ceived an LDS mission call to Singapore. Sin-gapore. All that good news for the new year. Dana and James Courtright and baby Emilee have moved to Tennessee Ten-nessee where James works on the fire crew at Natches Trace National Park. It was very hard for Dana's parents Herb and Dorie Baugh to see them go so far away. Speakers in LDS sacrament meeting last week were Bishop Clem Griffin and High Councilman Don Coleman. Kirsten Shakespear and Melinda Ott were youth speakers. speak-ers. Sustained were John Niemann as assitant ward clerk and Bonnie Miles and Rhea Deardon as ward and assistant ward music directors. The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Pio-neers, Pahreah Camp, held their monthly meeting on Monday. Rebecca Re-becca Wagstaff presided over the meeting and family histories were given by Helen Willis.. A lesson on Summit County was given by June Shakespear. There were 10 members present. The Cub Scout Pinewood derby was held last Wednesday at the LDS Cultural Hall. The boys raced their homemade cars against each other. First place winners were Kaden Pollock, Pol-lock, son of Steve and Machele Pollock; Shawn Syrett, son of Eric and Tracy Syrett; and Ryan Alvey, son of Kerry and JoNeil Alvey. Everyone had a great time. Louis Haas has returned home after an 11 -day stay at Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch. Louis and wife Hilma's daughter and son-in-law Lucine and Richard Fox of Tustin, Calif., spent several days with them. Hilma reports that Merle Richards is in good spirits at the care center in Richfield. She has improved enough to sit up and do some crocheting. Sara Littlefield was able to ' come home from the long term care center in Panguitch for several days. Her son and daughter Jim Littlefield and JaNell Cook were here with her. It was good to see Sara home if only for a short time. That corner cor-ner of town seems so lonely without with-out her. John Orlan and Ferriland Ruesch attended LDS temple sessions at the Monticello temple with Ferriland's brother and wife, Darr and Norma Hatch and nephew and wife Darr and Gloria Hatch, who live in Moab. they all went on to Cortez, Colo, for the night and visited many interesting in-teresting places on their way home. Wallace and Mary Ott had daughters Marilyn Murdock of St. George and Irene Emett of Veyo home for a visit. They spent two days helping Mary finish some quilts and baby blankets. Mark and Barbie LeFevre are the proud parents of daughter, Hallie Anne LeFevre. She was born in Cedar City weighing 6 pounds 8 ounces, and measuring 18 inches. Besides her two sisters, grandparents grandpar-ents Stan and Nellie Mecham, Reed and Mary LeFevre, and great-grandmother great-grandmother Melda Davis, are all eager to shower Hallie with lots of love. Larvin and Eva Pollock recently had daughter and son -in-law Marian and Blake Allen and their six children chil-dren of Orem come for a visit. Eva had cataract surgery in Panguitch last Thursday and says she is doing fine. Minnie Nielsen had gall bladder surgery last week and is back from the hospital and staying wiuV nephew Ron McGee and family. She reports that she is feeling better ; but will not be home for a week or two. ' Mate and Ruth Baugh have been in Phoenix for a week with Ruth's' father Blake Robison. They celebrated cele-brated Blake's birthday while they were with him. Jean Syrett had a visit from her cousin and Colleen Haycock and family. Colleen's brother Lloyd Haycock was buried in Tropic during dur-ing the week. LaMar and Ethel LeFevre have returned from a 14-day Caribbean cruise on the Princess lines "Love Boat." They flew from Las Vegas to Puerto Rico where they boarded the ship. There were five ports of call including Granada and St. Char-. les. The highlight of the tour was the Panama Canal. They traveled up the Pacific coast to Acapulco. LaMar and Ethel toured 8,500 miles by sea and air and enjoyed every minute of the trip. Laycee Mangum, daughter of Pete and Keela Mangum, is engaged to be married to Ryan Johnson, son of Met and Lana Johnson of Cedar City. The happy couple plan to' marry in the spring.. Keela Mangum drove Lynn Munson to St. George for a medical appointment and she received a good report and also visited Don and Dixie Munson while there. Shirley Haycock and Laura Cottam joined them for lunch and they celebrated Laura's birthday. Shirley! had been in St. George for three' weeks with daughter and son-in-law Kay and Leland Deuel. She enjoyed, her visit but was anxious to return to her own home. Everyone had a very good day. Everyone has mixed feelings about our January weather. We are really enjoying the beautiful, warm days, but we all know we need some storms and lots of moisture, very soon. |
