Show 1 ; 1 It Makes Cents By Vi Judge Blake k. By Vi Blake Dear Vi: You are great. You promptly answered my e-mail request for advice on my wallpaper problem. The job was completed in a fraction of the time it was taking with a spray bottle of hot water and a small hand scraper. Thank you so much kind lady. As always, a fan Norma Turner. Dear Readers: I am printing Norma' s letter to remind you that you can ask for help or send your ideas to me by e-mail. Norma wanted to know if there was an easier way to remove five layers of wallpaper. I promptly answered by e-mail, suggesting hot water and vinegar applied with a paint roller. So, those of you who have e-mail, you can get quick responses this way. My e-mail address is:: viblake infowest.com. My son, Dan, who lives in Mesa, Arizona, e-mailed this suggestion to share with you: Dear Mom: I had an interesting experience today with a long distance calling card company. We have had this card for a couple of years and I called to change our I number to reflect our new area code, i After the change was made, I asked . them what the rate was and they voluntarily offered to drop the rate 2.5 cents a minute. You may want to tell your readers to review any account they have (phone, long distance, cellular, internet, calling card) every six months or at least once a year'. Competition is so fierce now that all you need do is insinuate that a change of providers is in the works and most of these companies will lower your rates. With love, Dan Have you ever heard of using human urine to control ants outside not in the house? Well, neither had I until I heard this on Jerry Baker's informative radio program.. It's so simple. You douse anthills with diluted urine -four parts water to one part urine. I did this on a hill near our patio. Sure enough, the ants either died or went somewhere else. Jerry specializes in natural rather than chemical pesticides and fertilizers. This appeals to me, so I will probably be sharing some of his expertise with you. Getting the most from your garden: When I took up the pea vines this year, I found quite a few over-ripe pods. Rather than discard these, I cooked and pureed the peas for pea soup. It was good and easy. I merely added milk and seasonings to taste. If you like beet greens, cut the tops off and they will grow up again. This way, you get nice, young, tender greens. I learned this . from my neighbor Cherie Brown. If you want beets and greens, thin your patch to give the beets room to mature. The plants you pull out can be used for greens as can the tops when you harvest the beets. I learned from Ha May Blake that if you cut rather than pull leafy lettuce clumps the lettuce will grow back again. Also, from someone, I don't know who, I learned to cut off the roots of green onions a bit into the flesh and plant them. Soon green shoots will appear. These can be used as you would use chives. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Use no reproachful language against anyone, neither curses nor revi-lings. revi-lings. George Washington Readers: This is your feature.
