Show - 3 pi j : . 7 ; Escalante High School seniors David Munson, Mike Wheeler and Russell Brooks were all recognized this season as Academic All-State Track recipients. Each had an outstanding year scholastically as well as on the track field. EHS Track Team Excels In 2000 By Jennifer Lyman ESCALANTE Escalante High School's track team has accomplished a major comeback this year. They have just returned from the Brigham Young University Uni-versity Invitational where the boys team took 8th place in a field of 33 teams. They were outranked by only two 1A teams Panguitch and Dugway and then only by four points. Mike Wheeler took 1st in the high jump at 6 feet 4 inches. Seth Steed captured 2nd in the 3200-meter, 3200-meter, which also broke the school record. Jacob Heaton placed 2nd in the 800-meter dash and 7th in the 300 hurdles. The boys 4 x 400 team broke another school record, taking 3rd. The team included Jacob Heaton, Ben Ripplinger, Lucas Schulkoski and Seth Steed. Others who participated and maintained personal records were Scott Beebe in the 1600-meter, Devin Shakespear in the 100-meter, Ben Ripplinger in the 100-meter, and Seth Steed in the 800-meter. Also, Andrea Christensen in the 400-meter and 300 hurdles and the girls 1600 medley relay team of Jen Lyman, Rilee Smith, Andrea Christensen and Jen Davis. The EHS track team has had its share of injuries this year, but team members have all recovered and are looking strong coming into the region. Panguitch has a sure win for 1st, but there will be some competition among Escalante, Piute Pi-ute and Valley for 2nd. Husband and wife coaches Monte Mon-te and Jill Marshall have inspired the track team to go farther and work harder than ever before. They are great examples and have spent a lot of time and effort being enthusiastic enthu-siastic role models. |
