Show "1 I I Some 92 bike riders lined the main street of Tropic this week resting up a bit before heading to spend the night in Kodachrome. The group was partic i-pating i-pating in a British fund raising effort for cerebral Ninety-two bicycle riders participating in the Grand Canyon 400 km "Bike Away" May 5-13 came through Garfield County on Sunday, making their way from Western Town Resort on U.S. Highway 89 onto Highway 12 through the Bryce area, down the dump to Tropic, on to Cannonville, and then, surprising everyone, heading down then taking off south to Kodachrome State Park, then on down challenging Cottonwood Road on their skinny-tired Schwinn bicycles. Haven't heard from them since, but they were accompanied by their tour support vehicles and confident they would reach their Grand Canyon goal after stops at Page and Cameron, Ariz. The group was sponsored by a British charity, raising funds for victims of cerebral palsy and was composed of riders from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales a New Zealand "kiwi" and an Australian national. To qualify for the trip, each rider had to raise a minimum of $4,000 to enter the event. Sponsors expect to raise about half a million dollars. The oldest participant is 67 and palsy, endorsed by SCOPE and called the Grand Canyon Bike Away 400 km, i-unning May 5-13. Members were from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Energetic Riders Participating in a Fund Raiser for Cerebral Palsy Go Cottonwood the youngest 20. The group flew in to Las Vegas and took coaches to Western Town Resort where their bicycles were waiting. This is not the first time for many in the group since the spon soring charity selects a different part of the U.S. to travel every other year. There is one event each May and one each September. Next year, plans are being made for a bike trip to Africa. |
