Show PMGuma tmvs. By Earl Roe 676-2376 wearlroeyahoo.com For those of you who still have faith in growing a garden this year and are not worried about the June 14 frost, the good news is that Jerry and DeAnna Lefevre and H & R have their greenhouses up and running. Barbara Heaton has been transferred from a Salt Lake City hospital to our own Garfield Memorial facility. June Owens is back in our hospital again after feeling well enough to go home for a couple of days. At an Awards Banquet held at Southern Utah University on April 24, Willie Riggs, son of Ron and Karleta Riggs, was awarded a Certificate of Achievement as outstanding freshman for quality educational performance in Applied Technology from the University's School of Applied Science of Technology. Needless to say, Ron and Karleta were both there to see Willie receive his award. Elizabeth Foy is back home after spending three weeks visiting visit-ing wjth members of her. family. Her granddaughter Amber, who just completed her freshman year at Brigham Young University came from Provo and drove Elizabeth to Leamington and Oak City (Elizabeth's home town) to wish her brother Rich Finlinson, a "Happy 89th Birthday". They then traveled to Provo to attend, the graduation of another granddaughter, Amy Robinson, and to meet Amy' fiance Steve Baker. While in Provo, Elizabeth was able to meet her first great-grandson, Logan Cook, son of Eric and Ann Cook, who came into this world on Apr. 14. Elizabeth then boarded a plane for Ponca City, Okla., to spend some time with Howard and Pat Foy and their family and to work on her family history histo-ry book which she is still trying to finish. It wasn't all "book-work" "book-work" in Ponca City because she found time to attend tennis and band performances of her grandson Alex and also visit with her first great-granddaughter, Ellie, daughter of Emily and Jeff Glasglow. Elizabeth left Oklahoma the day the tornadoes hit the state and was happy to arrive safely in Las Vegas to spend some time with the family of daughter Caroline, and her husband, Will Robinson. While in Vegas she was very happy to be able to celebrate with her grandson Jeff, as she watched his team win the Nevada State Volleyball Championship. Jeff is listed as one of the top 50 High School players in the Nation. She was also able to attend a play in which her grandson Jeff, was a member of the cast, and to visit with another grandson, Matt, about his recent mission call to Rio de Janerio. Caroline then brought her back to Panguitch to rest up and get her yard ready for the summer. After this busy three weeks, I would think she needs the rest more than she needs to get ready for Summer. (If and when?) The last couple of days say that it is just around the corner, but the cold nights still foster some doubt. Alta Orton was happy to hear that her son, Bucky Orton, has (See PANGUITCH on page 5A) Panguitch From Page 4A been hired as the head football coach at Kanab High School. Bucky has . been teaching and coaching at Altamont High but he and his wife Katie will be moving to Kanab as soon as he can close out his commitments at Altamont. Alta also gave me a bit of news that was a surprise to me. Her cousin McKay Mcintosh works as a nurse at the LDS Hospital and often is part of the life flight crew when they come to pick up a patient at Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch. If time permits, he often comes to visit her. McKay is the son of the late Boyd Mcintosh and Madeline (Montague) Mcintosh. Madeline is my first cousin. In olden times, this kind or relationship would make Alta and me "shirt tail relatives". Denny and Jean Orton will have their entire family here to hear their son, brother, and uncle, Dusty Orton report on his LDS mission in the Tuscon area. Denny will also participate in the blessing of a grandchild at this time. Jane and Autumn Excell recently returned from Louisville, Ky., where they went to visit with the family of Greg and Jane's daughter Tara and her (See PANGUITCH on page 6A) Panguitch News From Page 5A family and to see Tara's new daughter Kaylee Jane Condie, who became part of the Jared and Tara Condie family on May 6. Kaylee also has a big brother, Michael, to welcome her when she comes home. Kaylee's great-grandmas are Hilma Excell and Margaret Greenleaf. Jared and Tara are in Louisville while Jared studies dentistry the University of Louisville. I now have a request for some help from our older (much older) readers. I am trying to make a list and give the rules of the games we used to play back in the 20's, 30's, and 40's. In discussing this with Vermon Barney, he asked if I remem- . bered "Blank, Blank the ' -Bladder""and how we played it? All I could recall was the yell and that it involved two teams and that it was a night game. " these signs blur And bounce around Then you better bet-ter park And walk to town " Burma Shave. |
