Show UStoLMJTi: NEWS By Marlene Haws 826-4859 marlenehcolor-country.net Dirk Durfey made a promise to his junior Jazz players that if they won their last game he would take them to Salt Lake City to see a Jazz game. Well, they won and Dirk delivered! He took his team: Brady Barney, Cody Barney, Keaton Durfey, Clayte Durfey, Kayson Durfey, Dusty Lyman, Neal Owens and Learon Presland. Accompanying them were: Eva Durfey, Rhonda Barney, Sherree Lyman and Kelleen Owens. They drove to Sandy and rode the Trax to the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Before the game they were able to visit with all the Jazz players and get their autographs. Each boy also got a briefcase. This will be something some-thing they will long remember, thanks to Dirk Durfey their coach! Twila Mclnelly had lots of company last week. Gary and Judilyn Christensen and Grena Searle came from St. George; Grena's daughter, Heidi Ellison, from Toquerville and Kent and Phyllis Mclnelly came from Hurricane to spend one night. The Christensens also visited Norm and Ardis Christensen while they were here, also Lynn and Judy Griffin. The Mclnelly family received word that their relative, Shirley Church Ramsay, had passed away. Shirley's home is in Greenriver, Utah. Marc and SusAnn McLemore attended National School Board Meetings in California last week Eve Marsh spent a week in Salt Lake City. Monte Luker went to Salt Lake City to bring Sylvia home for a day or two. Chance Brooks met with an accident last week while helping wrangle cows. One cow kicked the gate and the gate kicked Chance, making it necessary to go to the hospital for stitches in his chin. Kay and Jody took him to the dentist later to have some teeth checked out. He is okay now. MaeVonn Taylor has been in the hospital again with pneumonia. pneumo-nia. Hope she can shake that now that spring is here. Or is it? Pat and Bobbi Coughlin are back and forth between here and St. George every few days. Bobbi says her father is amazing. amaz-ing. He is 90 years old, had a hip replacement one day and was up walking the next! They visited with Brandon Haws in a St. George Hospital elevator when they were there one trip. Word has it that former resident, resi-dent, Orpha Spencer, who now lives in Mesa. Ariz., fell and broke her hip. Hope she gets along as well as Bobbi's dad! Joe, Tracy and Mary Lynn Sidwell went to Salt Lake City for the weekend to visit with Dennis (Bird) Richards. He is in the hospital and recovering from his burns of a couple of weeks ago. They say they keep him heavily sedated so they didn't did-n't think he knew they were there, but the doctors and nurses seemed to think he was making progress. Arnold and Deon Alvey went to Las Vegas, Nev., to be with their grandson Justin Whitefield while he had his tonsils out. Don't know who needed who's moral support more, the grand son or the grandparents! Lane and Geraldine Liston received word that their granddaughter grand-daughter Jennifer Liston had been in a car accident in St. George. She is okay, just very stiff and sore. Klyn and Marlene Haws went to Panguitch last Friday, dropped their income taxes off and went on to Salina to spend the night with their kids, Jon and Jillyn Sorensen. Shopped in Richfield the next day and got home in time for another visit from their son Robert who lives somewhere in Colorado, Wyoming, or ... anyway he is on the road a lot! William Horner passed away Mar. 29 in St. George . A funeral funer-al was held in St. George, on Tuesday, April 1 . Interment was in the Escalante City Cemetary. He is survived by his wife, the former Maurice Nixon, and three daughters, Barbara (Peter) Brower, Jacquelyn (William) Kaneloa and Laura Lee Griggs; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Maurice is a sister of Louise Liston, Norene Allen and EIRay Nixon. Our condolences to Maurice and her family. Robert and Louise Liston visited vis-ited their daughter Jan in Phoenix, Ariz, last month. They enjoyed their visit and say Jan is happy and doing well. Hal Spencer and Larry Christensen each had a turn riding rid-ing in the ambulance to Garfield Memorial Hospital last week. Hopefully they will be okay and back home again by the time you read this. |
