Show ESCALU1T!: MVJS By Marlene Haws 826-4859 marlenehcolor-country.net The "E" on the hill Northeast of town is whitewashed again and the "E" on the West of town was all lit up on Wednesday night of last week. I don't know about the high school students who do it, but that always tugs at my heart strings. "Yeaaaay . Escalante!" Julie Koyle, daughter of Kendall and Laura Koyle, didn't have family here from out of town. But, her family had just returned from Idaho (where all the relatives live) where they had a family reunion on Memorial Day weekend. That counts! William Montano, son of Martha Montano, had a dozen or so relatives here from Phoenix, Ariz. He lives with his aunt Gloria Holladay in Boulder and his grandmother Martha Arochi. Chad Porter, son of Don and Gwen Porter, had aunt Dana Alvey and cousin Shilo Alvey from Cedar City. His grandparents grandpar-ents Marvin and Gloria Porter and Rolain Alvey didn't have to come to town as they already live here. Shane Woolsey, son of Eric and Sherri Woolsey, shared grandma Twila Michelangelo, Richfield, with Rhett Butler and the Reid family; his brother Michael Woolsey had days off just right to be able to attend the graduation. Mike is working on an off-shore oil rig out of Santa Barbara, Calif. Shane's Escalante grandparents are Haynes and Iola Woolsey. (I hear Haynes had a bout with pneumonia and a little stay in Garfield Memorial Hospital lately, but is home now and doing okay.) It would be nice if all these young people would check in and let us know what they are doing next year at this time. I know most of them have big plans. It seems that, even though we have some disadvantages disadvan-tages here in Escalante (and Boulder), most of our high school graduates are able to progress and really make a ' showing in the outside world. Congratulations to all. We are really proud of all of them! |
