Show GtQQ Obituaries Ann Shakespear Thornton TUCSON, ARIZ. Ann Shakespear Thornton, 54, died on Sept. 4, 1997 in Tucson, Ariz., after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the oldest child born to William Vernal Shakespear and Marian Dalley Winters Shakespear Mecham on Nov. 8, 1942, in Panguitch. Ann was raised and educated in Tropic. She fulfilled a mission in Scotland for the LDS Church, where she served as secretary to the mission president. After returning re-turning home from her mission, she attended Brigham Young University, where she graduated with a degree in housing and home management. She married Robert Thornton on June 19, 1970 in the St. George LDS Temple. They lived in North Carolina while her husband hus-band served in the military at Fort Bragg. Eventually, they moved to Tucson, Ariz., where they have lived the last eight years. Ann loved to work with people and had a very positive influence on their lives. She was an active member of the LDS Church, where she served in many ward and stake callings. She was very talented and she enjoyed making crafts for her family and friends. Ann was always al-ways helping and sharing her talents tal-ents with others. She was a "right crafty lady." She was a wonderful mother and homemaker and her family was the focus of her life. She will be greatly missed by all her family fam-ily and friends. Ann is survived by her husband hus-band Robert and two sons: Darren Dar-ren (Sheri) Thornton, Provo and Dayne (Shanda) Thornton, of Tucson; two grandchildren, James and Sabrina; her mother and stepfather, step-father, Marion and Malen Mecham; one sister and five brothers: Palma and Roland Miles, Cedar City; Val N. and Suzi Shakespear, Cedar City; Carl Ellis and Kay Shakespear, Tropic; Franz and Margaret Shakespear, Tropic; Vernal Dean and Robyn Shakespear, Herriman; Donald V. and Karma Shakespear, Bear River. She was preceded in death by Ann Thornton her father, Vernal. Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 8 at the Tropic LDS Ward Chapel in Tropic, with Bishop Scott Barton presiding. The family prayer was given by Robert Thornton and an opening hymn was sung, "How Great Thou Art." The invocation was offered by Dean Shakespear, with a life history his-tory read by Donald Shakespear. Remarks were make by Bob Thornton, and the eulogy was given by Dale Pyle. A musical number was sang by Karma Shakespear and Pam Miles, "Each Life That Tourches Ours For Good," and remarks were made by Malen Mecham and Bishop Scott Barton. A closing hymn was sung by the choir and family, with Sherd Thornton singing solo, "Lord, I Will Follow Thee," The closing prayer was given by Franz Shakespear. Pallbearers were Donald Shakespear, Dean Shakespear, Franz Shakespear, Carl Shakespear, Val Shakespear, Darren Dar-ren Thornton, Dayne Thornton, Nathan Pyle and Dustin Pyle. James Edward Cline PANGUITCH James Edward Ed-ward Cline, 52, died suddenly, August 31, 1997 from a heart attack. at-tack. He was born June 19, 1945 to Frank and Ivah Cline in Burbank, Calif., and grew up in Panguitch Utah. He graduated from Southern Utah State College in 1969 with a B.S. degree in business administration. adminis-tration. He lived and worked in Salt Lake City Utah for many years, and was especially proud of his 15 years of service at Holy Cross Hospital. Motivated by his love and concern for the people around him, he pursued a B.S. in Social Work from Weber State University which he obtained just prior to his death. He was a member of the Catholic Church and an avid sports fan. He married Linda Barry; they were later divorced. He married Jane Stefen who preceded pre-ceded him in death. He married Evelyn Mounteer in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his mother Ivah Cline, his brothers, Frank L. (Mary Lynne) Cline and John J. (Karen) Cline; step-children, Ann (Mark) Cunningham, Cun-ningham, Lisa Killian and her son, Brent, Mitchell (Debbie) Mounteer, Jeffery Mounteer, Mel-anie Mel-anie Mounteer, and Wendy (Bob) Brodbeck. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank L. Cline. A memorial service was held Sept. 4, 1997 in the Larkin Sunset Gardens MortuaryCemetery Chapel. Mary Carter ESCALANTE Mary Cordelia Corde-lia Winsor Carter, 87, of Esca-lante, Esca-lante, died Sept. 6, 1997 in Panguitch. Pan-guitch. She was born Sept. 3, 1909 in Thatcher, Ariz., to Joseph and Cordelia Thurston Winsor. She married Philo Coombs Carter, Car-ter, April 30, 1927, in Florence, Ariz. The marriage was solemnized solem-nized in the Mesa LDS Temple, Nov. 1, 1929. He preceded her in death. Mary is the great-granddaughter great-granddaughter of Jacob Hamblin, and Sarah Priscilla Leavitt and the granddaughter of Abram Winsor Win-sor and Sarah Olive Hamblin who ranched at Pipe Springs, Ariz. She is survived by her children: chil-dren: Melvin W. Carter, Provo; Norma Dell Beals, Waddell, Ariz.; Philo S. Carter, Phoenix, Ariz.; Keith N. Carter, Escalante; Joseph L. Carter, Mapleton; 43 grandchildren; 117 great-granchildren; great-granchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother Thurston Winsor. She was preceded in death by parents; brothers and sisters: Fern Russell, Olive Black, Joseph (Carl) Winsor, Frank Winsor; William (Stanley) Winsor; Caroline Caro-line (Bernice) Hargrave, Ivan (Abe) Winsor, Jacob (Hamblin) Winsor, Alberta (Hattie) Winsor, Cates (Lomand) Winsor, Norman Winsor, Ruth Weems. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997 at 11 a.m. in the Escalante 1st Ward LDS Chapel, with Bishop Marc McLemore presiding. Friends may call Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. The family prayer will be offered of-fered by Keith N. Carter and prelude prel-ude and postlude music will be played by Susan Wilson. The congregation will sing "Love At Home," accompanied by Susan Wilson and directed by Linda Carter. The invocation will be given Martha Twitchell ESCALANTE Martha Kate Matilda Haney Twitchell, 89, of Escalante, died Sept. 4, 1997 in Panguitch. She was born Oct. 2, 1907 in Rico, Colo, to George E. and Lillian May Ramsdell Haney. She married Lloyd Larsen, Sept. 1, 1926 in the Manti LDS Temple. They later divorced. She married Lovell Monroe Twitchell in Escalante, Dec. 31, 1933. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple July 16, 1941. He preceded pre-ceded her in death Jan. 17, 1980. She was an active member of the LDS church, where she served in many positions. She especially enjoyed attending the temple. She loved to crochet and made many quilts. She is survived by her children: chil-dren: Alvin (Marie) Twitchell, Georgetown, Tex.; Nelda Munson, Escalante; Curtiss L. (Denece) Larsen, St. George; Lorena May (Lloyd) Langston, Salt Lake City; Beth (Gail) Scott, Richfield; Artie Ar-tie (John) Clutter, Midland, Tex.; DeAnn (Scrib) Gillies, Panguitch; Joy (Clyde) Tooman, Bolivar, Missouri; Craig M. (Marilyn) Twitchell; Panguitch; 38 grandchildren; grand-children; 71 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Leo M. (Marge) Haney, Willits, Calif.; sister-in-law Ar-lene Ar-lene Haney, Payson. She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law LoRell Munson; brothers: William Harrison, Har-rison, Eugene Irving, Leslie Harold, Har-old, Henry George and Max Ramsdell Haney; sister, Lorena May Haney. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 6 at Escalante, with Bishop Marc McLemore presiding. The family prayer was offered by Curtis Larsen, a son. The invocation was given by a grandson, Robert Clutter, and a musical selection, "I Love To See The Temple," was sung by great-grandchildren, accompanied by Marilv K Mary Carter by Keith Bryan Carter, a tribute will be- given by Norma Dell Beals and a musical selection, "I Am A Child Of God," will be sung by the grandchildren, accompanied ac-companied by Cara Jones. A speech will be given by Joseph Jo-seph L. Carter, and remarks will be made by Bishop Marc McLemore. A musical selection will be sung by granddaugters, "Let Us Oft Speak Kind Words," with Shelly Carter playing the piano and Anna Carter playing the flute. The benediction will be offered of-fered by Vinson Carter. Pallbearers Pallbear-ers include all of her grandsons. Compassionate services will be rendered by the Escalante 1st Ward LDS Relief Society sisters. Graveside services and interment inter-ment will be held Friday, Sept. 12 in the Rest Haven Cemetery, 6290 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, Ariz. A poem was read by Lorena Langston, a daughter, and a tribute trib-ute was given by Barbara Munson, Mun-son, a granddaughter. Susan Wilson, Wil-son, a neighbor, sang a medley of Martha's favorite songs. A son-in-law, Gail Scott, gave a speech and remarks were made by Bishop Marc McLemore. Denece Larsen, a daughter-in-law, sang "This I Know," accompanied accom-panied by a granddaughter, Kathy Larsen. The benediction was offered by Brad Gillies, a grandson. Pallbearers were Doug Twitchell, Daryl Munson, Mike Larsen, Tom Sawyer, Gary Coleman, Cole-man, Richard Clutter, Brad Gillies, Gil-lies, Brent Tooman, Stoney Woolsey, Justin Woolsey, Stan Munson, Reed Munson, Milan Munson, Clayne Larsen, Bryce Larsen, Mark Langston, Craig Coleman, Robert Clutter, David Clutter, and Bryan Tooman. Burial was in the Escalante City Cemetery, with Craig M. Twitchell dedicating the grave. Compassionate services were offered by the Escalante First Ward Relief Society Sisters.
