Show t . 1 '." i , Panguitch News By Mamie Talbot 676-8084 With the snow cover of even a few inches on the ground, the flickers are back scouring the walls of the old brick houses for spiders and bits or mortar to grind them up. Earl Roe reports 10 inches of ice on the lake. That sounds better than the six inches he first walked on to see if it was safe for fishing. Some of us are still cowardly about walking on water even with 10 inches of ice between us and the liquid stuff. The 80th birthday party for Cleo Clark was very enjoyable. All of her kids were here. Art and Margaret Clark, Cedar City; Terry and Cory Clark, Gary and Cleola Ellis, Marion and Louise Burgess from Panguitch; Jim and Maxine Clark, West Valley City; Victor and Pam from Dixie; and Drew and Lela Anderson from Stockton. Most of Cleo's grandkids and great-grands great-grands were here. Cleo was bom in Panguitch to Billy and Mae Norton Miller, Jan. 23, 1916. She grew up and married Leland Clark of Panguitch. They spent some years away but eventually moved back to spend a number of years at Panguitch Lake near her sister, Alda Cooley, before building a house in town close to Cleo's brothers, Nin and Lois Miller and Del and Myra Miller. It was good to visit with the family. Donald and Ilene Robinson were here to help dad Scott Robinson enjoy his 88th birthday. Scott seems to be getting along well after having surgery last year. Mark and Sheila Orton are moved into their new home. Brent Orton's house is up to the square. The last week of very cold weather makes steady work on the new houses hard to do. Dale McClellan makes trips back and forth to St. George for therapy. Delin Housekeeper has had to go north to be with her mother who is very ill. Hope she can soon be back to her classroom. Aluminum cans are still being collected. Before his death, Ray Barnes designated this year's collection col-lection to go to the school for playground play-ground equipment. Principal Nick Reynolds is taking the cans to Cedar City for processing and sale. The LDS Third Ward Relief Society Visiting Teacher Fireside was held Sunday, Jan. 28 in the 2nd3rd Ward Cultural Hall. Is someone collecting newspapers? newspa-pers? Let us know and we will let the town know. Panguitch native Ruth Norton Parker called to let us know of the death of a cousin and another Panguitch native, Elda Prince in California. Elda was the daughter of Herbert and Rilla Prince. The Prince house still sits empty here after the family went to California to work during WWII fifty years ago. Elda's family survivors are a son and brothers, Max Prince, California; Jim Prince, Summit and Shirley Prince, California, who cared for Elda during her illness and sister Vida Mae of Washington state. Floyd Richards is soon to have his 90th birthday. He is doing well after a pacemaker implant. His pickup is a 'familiar sight from his home to the post office. Barbara Orton is getting around with the help of a walking cast on her broken leg. The snow storms don't help footing for some of us who are not too well grounded |
