Show f Tropic Hews By Lynn Munson 679-8627 The LDS Sacrament meeting program on Sunday was given by the Primary children and leaders. It was so beautiful to watch the children sing with all their hearts. Paul, Keela and Laycee Man-gum Man-gum were in Bunkerville, Nev., last week to attend brother Ward Mangum's step-daughter Sidnee Houston's wedding and reception. They had a very enjoyable trip. Tawn and Cami Mangum were at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to cater a wedding. Their children stayed with grandparents Walt and Colleen Engle of Cedar City while their parents were gone. Shauna Anderson, Tonya Syrett, Sheree Walsted, and Bonnie Miles traveled to Ogden to attend the annual Utah State Quilt Guild held on Sept. 16, 17 and 18. Other . members of the Bryce Country ; Quilters Guild from other towns also attended. Bonnie is the vice-president vice-president of the state guild and ; taught several classes there. They ; all enjoyed the meetings and came away with lots of new ideas and patterns. Reubin Burgess of Panguitch has been over frequently to visit his aunt, Minnie Nielson and help her do some work on her home. Bill and Nancy Hubner of West Valley City were here to see Nancy's mother and sister Margaret and Margie Mecham. They had a wonderful visit over the weekend before returning horjie on Monday. Kay Shakespear took Malen and Marian Mecham to Bear River City to visit son Donald Shakespear and family. They attended the wedding of Donald's son Lyle and Camille Shakespear and the mission report of his other son, Clayne. They also visited with Aleene Sevy in Brigham City. Her husband George was the principal of Bryce Valley High School for many years. Jerry and Bonnie Mecham of Green River were here last week to visit Malen and Marian and other relatives. They camped on the East Fork for the elk hunt and many family members visited them there. There were numerous bear tracks found in the area. The EMT and Fire Department appreciation dinner was held on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at the Tropic Fire Station. There were 85 members and spouses there. They wish to thank Tropic Town for the sponsorship they have given for many years. All the citizens of Tropic and surrounding areas also (See TROPIC on page 7-A) TROPIC NEWS From page 4-A thank the EMT's and fire fighters for the excellent job they do. They really deserve it for the stressful and lime consuming work done. Many lives and many buildings have been saved because of the great volunteer service they give. Sandrea Francisco took her mother EvaDean and nephew Charlie Mortensen to Cedar City on Sept. 16 for Eva Dean's doctor appointments. Hope they received good news and had a good day. Dixie Shakespear had a very memorable and special weekend. She attended the Mountain Meadow Massacre Monument, which was rededicated by LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley on Saturday. She and daughter Christy Gardner of New Castle were among the 1700 guests to hear the speaker$ and a large choir. Besides President Hinckley and another church leader, descendents of both the Lee family and the Baker-Francher wagon train spoke of the healing and love that they shared as they honored those who died in 1857. It was truly a very moving ceremony. Dixie stayed several nights with Christy, husband Jeff Gardner and family. Jeff and Elna Jeffery and sons Daniel and Thomas of Dugway enjoyed a visit with Elna's parents Obie and June Shakespear and other family members. Ann Marie Johnson was hostess at her home for the LDS Adult Family Home Evening Group on Monday. Six members enjoyed a delicious dinner and the fellowship of each other's company. Lynn Munson was in St. George on Thursday for some follow-up medical tests. Katie Thomas was kind enough to take her again. They had a delicious lunch and later, treated themselves to ice cream cones. |
