Show Escalante News By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Norman and Ardis Christensen and Lynn and Judy Griffin went to St. George last weekend for the blessing of their new grandson. The little boy was given the name of Chris Alburn after his great grandfathers. His parents are Gary and Judilyn Christensen. Norman and Ardis Christensen and Freland and Phyllis Alvey went to Tooele last week. They attended the wedding of their grandson, Stra-ton Stra-ton Christensen to Elizabeth Sutton. Sut-ton. The newly weds were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Many friends and relatives attended at-tended the temple in St. George with Ryan Cottam last Saturday including his parents, Brent and Patrice Cottam; grandparents Doyle and Thelma Cottam and Klyn and Marlene Haws; Myron, Sannette, Melanie and Garrett Cottam, Esca-lante, Esca-lante, Travis and Ashley Cottam, Orem, Karen Ott, Tropic, and Reed and Analee Knudsen, Mayfield. Also included from Escalante were Vernon Spencer, Ed and Camille Shakespear, Areola Gates, Arnold and Deon Alvey, Geraldine Liston, Jim and Rose Caldwell, Jared Lyman, Ly-man, Bishop Wade and Shelly Barney, Judy Griffin and . Dawn Spencer. There were many others who were there to greet Ryan came he came out of the temple. Then Grandpa Doyle Cottom treated all of them to dinner at Chuck-a-Rama. Ryan will be leaving Oct. 20 for an LDS mission to Toronto, Canada. Deon Alvey took Velma Boulter to Panguitch for a check-up on her knee. The doctor did not release her yet, but she is doing well. Kim Reid spent a day in the hospital but is back home again and doing better. Sharon Dale and Shirley Marsh went to the airport in Salt Lake City to pick up their son, Justin, as he returned from his LDS mission in Tampa, Florida. While in the area the Marshes were able to visit their daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Rick Woolsey. They were also able to attend Grandparents Day with their grandchildren there. Betty Alvey and Clea Woolsey attended the wedding reception of Betty's grandson, Casey Alvey to Gina Nielson; in Richfield. Casey is a son of Stephen and Dianna Alvey of Monroe and Gina is a daughter of Brent and Lorraine Nielson, Niel-son, Richfield. - - Clea Woolsey went to American Fork for a doctors appointment. She stayed with her daughter, and son-in-law, Brenda and Tom Drown. She was able to get acquainted ac-quainted with their new baby girl who was born Sept. 9. The Drown's daughter, Chrystal, also has a new baby girl who was born Sept. 5. Ruby Griffin went with Jim and Janet Spencer on a trip to The Dalles, Ore. They will visit with Ruby's brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Norma Black and family. Marlene Haws went to Salina and stayed a couple of nights with Jon and Jillyn Sorensen. While she was there, Jon brought in a great big elk. It was quite a busy place for awhile with everyone stopping in to see the prize. Marlene and Jillyn also went to St. George to see Brandon Haws, who had invited them to m car shonnins with him. Vernon and Peg Roundy spent a weekend at their home here before they went to Scottsdale, Ariz, for a sales show for their business in Richfield. They were the winners of some pretty nice gifts while they were there. One was a nice-size go-cart go-cart which their grandkids will probably enjoy. They also went to a ball game with Bob and Sandra Porter of Mesa while in the area. Rolain Alvey went to Kanab to attend the Western Days celebration with LaDell and Karen Alvey. She said they had a great time. The rains and floods have been wreaking havoc with washouts and bridges. BLM employees, Sierra Clubbers and cattlemen were forced to spend the night on the desert, until 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, on the wrong side of the wash. I haven't heard how their relationship fared, so everything must have worked out all right. Seems like it can rain at the drop of a hat any more. The bridge south of town, near McKay Bailey and Monte Luker washed out Thursday afternoon. Floodwaters also went over the bridge near the old sawmill location north of town. There were reports of three or four inches of hail in the Upper Valley that same day. Glen Luellen's son took him to Colorado to be near his family after Glen suffered a stroke last week. Walter and Ila Bell recently visited vis-ited their children in Salt Lake City. Betty R. Alvey hosted a birthday birth-day party for Twila Mclnelly last week at the Canyon Country store. She invited all the "Mug Club" who congregate there each afternoon to spend an idle hour for a soda and a visit. In attendance were Twila's 87th were Deon Alvey, Rolain Alvey, Velma Boulter, Sue Bassett, Golda Cottam, Judy Griffin, Mary Griffin, Marlene Haws, Gwen Lyman, Ly-man, Eva Dean Liston, Suddie Ok-omoto, Ok-omoto, Carolyn Porter, Garneal Smith, Beth Smith, Loreta Spencer and Clea Woolsey. A bus load of people were there from England and offered to take pictures of the ladies. And Twila got a congratulatory kiss from a man she had never seen before. be-fore. Not bad for an 87-vear old. |
