Show I Escalantc News By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Dan and Lois Spencer took Dan's mother, LaRue Spencer and they all went to Mesquite where 40 of their family members got together for a family dinner. Lois' cousin Alice Heaps came from Salt Lake City to join them and so did Dan's sister Linda Saralegui and family who live there in Mesquite. They all attended a farewell testimonial for grandson, Shawn Hughes, who left for Uruguay to fill a two-year LDS mission. Shawn is the son of Lyle and Sarah Hughes. Dan was also able to bless his newest granddaughter, little McKenzie Shay who is the daughter of Jim and Alyson Spencer. LaRue Spencer recently had eye surgery in Panguitch. She is recovering well and says her eyesight is much improved. The family of Clem and Donita Griffin spent a few days here with Clem before and after the funeral of their mother and grandmother, Donita. The three children of the Robert Griffins came from Fruita, Colo.; and the families of Tom and Mitzi Borovatz, son-in-law Steve Newbold and two children and Kraig and Kelly Lundeberg all from the Salt Lake City area. Other relatives who were in town included Janice Ruden, Cedar City; Stanley and Rhea Baker and Matt and Lena Borovatz all of Murray; Dale, Viola and Marva Baker, Teasdale; Erma Kelly, Gunnison; the Heaps sisters, Thelma Johnson, Ann Dalebout, and Afton King all of Richfield; Gloria and Jessie Giles and Karen Elliot, Woods Cross; Brent Durfey and Dewey and Ramola Woolsey, Bicknell; Jolyn Peterson, Payson; Harry and Donna Brian, Loa and Jim and Rae Smith, Henrieville. Donita was a great lady and will be missed a lot. Condolences also to family friends and neighbors of Ethel Griffin, especially brother and sister-in-law Vernon and Hazel Griffin, the family of niece Shelley and Wade Barney, the Vernile Griffin family of Salt Lake City and Cora Shakespear (a sister) who is in the care center in Panguitch. Neighbors Al and Lani Barlow, Helen Shurtz, Nelda Munson and many others should have no regrets, they really took good care of her. Ethel was always a great supporter of the Senior Citizen Program. She would say "I've got to come or I'll get cabin fever!" Neat lady! Get well wishes to former residents Marian Roundy Foote, St. George and Vonda Pollock, Richfield who recently had surgery. Both are doing well. Lots of Christmas parties going on at the church and at school. No details however. Twenty six members of the Garfield County Council On Aging went to the Flying "M" in Panguitch for their annual Christmas Party. Going from here were: Arnold and Deon Alvey, Melvin and Florence Alvey, Velma Boulter, Fay and son Jim Alvey from Mapleton. Jim came to take his mother to Panguitch for eye surgery, but when they got there, there had been a mix-up in the appointment so he brought her back home and returned to Mapleton. Now she has to start dreading it all over again. Darn! The whole family of Bill and Dawn Griffin came home to help celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary. They had a very nice party with all the kids and grandkids taking part. Boyd and Trudi Griffin brought their family from Cleveland; Evan and Nicki Excell from South Jordan and Evan's mother, Hilma Excell came from Panguitch to join them; Randy and Lesa Griffin, St. George; Steve and Patrice Eyre, Center ville; Bryan and Sue Lyn Griffin, Richfield and Doug and Jeanette Braithwaite, Sunset. The Oak Creek Band, of which Boyd is a member, played for a dance after the program. Dawn and Bill can be proud of a very talented family. They must have left right after the party to go on an extended honeymoon I haven't been able to get hold of them on the phone since then! Postmaster Pat and her husband Owen Gonder took Pat's father, Ted Tanner to the Senior Citizen Center for dinner, after which he entertained the group by playing his accordion. Everyone enjoyed his playing very much. Since my father passed away I am staying with my mother, if the daytime. I don't get out and around much, so would very much appreciate a call with your news items. Call 826-4840 in the daytime and 826-4859 826-4859 in the evenings. Sure would help a lot. Thanks! Hope you've all been good this year because by the time you read this Santa will be UP IN THE AIR. Merry Christmas every body and hope the New Year will be your best ever! |
